About The Position

The WCHS Clinical Engineer Trainee position gains on the job training and education by shadowing experienced biomedical engineers under the close supervision of WCHS management. Under supervision, the Trainee will work hands-on to support the maintenance, inspection, and repair of essential clinical and diagnostic devices, ensuring they operate safely and effectively minimizing downtime and keeping patient care uninterrupted and safe.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Fundamental knowledge of electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, optics, physics, anatomy/physiology, and basic chemistry.
  • Ability to use common hand tools and interpret schematic drawings and service manuals.
  • Basic to intermediate computer networking knowledge.
  • Understanding of safety practices and risks when working with electronic and motorized equipment.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Consistent and reliable work habits.
  • Must pass pre-employment screening, including a limited background check and substance screening.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability under company policy.
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
  • Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
  • Analytical and communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to the customer in an easy to understand manner.
  • All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
  • Must be able to stoop, reach, kneel, couch in confined spaces, and maintain concentration.
  • Acceptable hearing, visual accuracy, field of vision, and color perception are required for working on minute circuits.
  • Moderate lifting is necessary and the ability to climb a ladder.
  • Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical coursework or a degree/certificate in Biomedical Electronics, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Willingness to pursue and complete professional certifications and ongoing training.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Gain valuable experience training alongside experienced biomedical engineers.
  • Understand the typical day of a clinical engineer and how to work in a hospital environment.
  • Build an understanding of medical terminology and the functionality of medical equipment and how it relates to diagnostic purposes.
  • Respond to service calls under supervision of Biomedical Technicians.
  • Learn how to balance workload, document repairs and PMs, vendor management, calibrate equipment, troubleshoot equipment.
  • Train in the proper use and care of sensitive calibrated test equipment.
  • Train in evaluating biomedical equipment issues, implementing appropriate repairs, performing planned maintenance (PM), safety, environmental inspections, completion of required documentation and protocol, and maintaining effective customer relations.
  • Gain Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience with inventory management, opening/closing corrective service ticket request, and Preventative Maintenance documentation.
  • Train and become proficient in the Clinical Engineering Trainee program competencies.
  • Complete assigned and/or required education in the clinical engineering and biomedical Field.
  • Work closely with clinical teams to resolve technical issues quickly and accurately.
  • Other duties as assigned.
