About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Corrections Expert Witness to join our team of forensic professionals. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in mental health care, psychological services, and behavioral health treatment within correctional settings, including jails, prisons, and detention facilities. This role is well suited for a licensed clinical professional who can evaluate the quality of care provided to incarcerated individuals and provide expert opinions in legal cases involving correctional healthcare, mental health treatment, suicide prevention, and standards of care. This is a unique opportunity for a clinical expert to apply their experience in correctional mental health or healthcare to analyze complex cases, assess whether appropriate care was provided, and clearly communicate their findings within the legal process.

Requirements

  • Licensed clinical professional such as a Clinical Psychologist (Ph.D. or Psy.D.), Psychiatrist (MD), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or other licensed behavioral health provider.
  • Extensive experience providing mental health or behavioral healthcare within correctional facilities, including jails, prisons, or detention centers.
  • Strong knowledge of suicide prevention protocols, crisis intervention, inmate mental health assessments, and treatment planning in correctional environments.
  • Experience reviewing clinical records and evaluating whether care met accepted standards of care for incarcerated populations.
  • Strong analytical and report-writing abilities, with the capability to translate clinical findings into clear expert opinions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills — able to explain clinical concepts and correctional healthcare standards to non-clinical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior expert witness experience is highly desirable but not required.
  • Experience working with NCCHC standards, ACA guidelines, or other correctional healthcare accreditation standards is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct forensic evaluations of clinical care provided within correctional facilities, including mental health treatment, psychological evaluations, suicide risk assessments, and behavioral health interventions.
  • Review case materials such as medical and mental health records, incident reports, suicide watch documentation, intake screenings, treatment plans, and correctional healthcare policies.
  • Assess whether correctional healthcare providers met accepted standards of care related to mental health treatment, crisis intervention, suicide prevention protocols, and inmate behavioral health management.
  • Prepare detailed written reports and expert opinions grounded in clinical practice, correctional healthcare standards, and accepted professional guidelines.
  • Provide expert witness testimony during depositions, mediations, and trials — clearly explaining clinical decision-making and standards of care to attorneys, judges, and juries.
  • Consult with legal teams to evaluate the adequacy of mental health care, identify potential failures in treatment or supervision, and assist in developing case strategies.
  • Evaluate policies and procedures related to suicide prevention, mental health screening, crisis intervention, segregation monitoring, and behavioral health services within correctional settings.
  • Stay current on correctional healthcare standards, constitutional requirements related to inmate healthcare, and best practices in correctional mental health services.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and flexible working arrangements.
  • Full support from a seasoned forensic team, including research resources, report editing, and case management.
  • Professional development opportunities such as deposition coaching, testimony training, and continuing education related to forensic and correctional healthcare practices.
  • A collaborative environment where your clinical expertise directly contributes to legal case outcomes.
