About The Position

The Clinical Coordinator position oversees the clinical dietitians ensuring that regulations, policy & procedures are followed. This person makes sure the office is organized, PRN staff is scheduled as needed, and processes are being followed. The Coordinator communicates with the Director on a daily basis, communicates with the Hospitality Associates and the Diet Office. This person works directly with the Patient Services Manager in developing and implementing the Diet Office training program. This position is responsible for the hospital bariatric accreditation process. Involves general guidance, supervision, and directions by the Director of FANS. The employee will be expected to perform accounts payable job duties independently, and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Employees in this position must be able to respond to FANS and the nutritional needs of the patients, employees and at time the community and all age categories from infant to Aging populations. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.

Requirements

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) or State Provisional Licensed Dietitian (PLD) Certificate.
  • If hired as an RD must obtain state licensure within 6 months of hire.
  • If hired as SPL Dietitian must become an RD within 6 months.
  • Bachelors Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics and completed internship
  • Minimum of three years clinical Acute Care experience required.
  • Good Verbal and Written Skills
  • Knowledgeable on electronic patient record, Word, and Excel preferred.
  • Experience with scheduling preferred
  • Required to attend yearly updates on food and drug interactions.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree in Nutrition is preferred.
  • Certification as a Diabetes Educator, Nutrition Support or other area in Nutrition is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities, and seeks opportunities to improve department and inter-department processes.
  • Serves as a resource to department staff, students, volunteers and other departments, and contributes to the teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care.
  • Takes appropriate measures to ensure safety of staff and patients.
  • Schedules dietitians ensuring adequate coverage for daily patient census managing productivity within the guidelines of the budget and Director of FANS.
  • Organizes the office, ordering supplies, making sure dietitians have the tools they need to do their job.
  • Communicates daily with the Director regarding patient care, dietitians, diet office, and anything related to the Food & Nutrition Department.
  • Communicates frequently with dietitians, fosters a strong relationship with the PRN staff, available to discuss issues, available after hours if an RD needs to ask a question.
  • Manages the productivity of the clinical staff
  • Trains the new dietitians according to the dept training program and continually keeps the Director informed of their progress.
  • Works with the Patient Services Supervisor and the Director in developing and implementing a training program for the diet office staff.
  • Organizes and implements the monthly PI audits: tray accuracy and meal quality keeping the director informed of most recent results. Completes a monthly graph of PI results and turns into the director.
  • Participates in the planning and implementing of wellness programs and other nutrition education projects aimed at the staff and community as directed by the FANS Director.
  • Communicates monthly with the Exec. Chef on the results of the quality meal audit and reports results to Director.
  • Frequently communicates with physicians exchanging information and making recommendations on patient care, i.e. Enteral/Parenteral feedings, diet recommendations, etc.
  • Coordinates division medical nutrition therapy initiatives with dietitians and appropriate hospital staff.
  • Oversite of hospital Bariatric Accreditation Program.
  • Attends meetings as required by the hospital and requested by the Director of FANS.
