As a part-time Clinical Assistant for the Hampton Newport News Community Service Board Mobile Unit, you will provide direct support to individuals during the assessment process, facilitating access to critical services. Your responsibilities include completing pre-registrations and client histories, reviewing clinical documentation for compliance, and interpreting insurance coverage, including verifying Medicaid or other third-party benefits. You will notify clinical staff of discrepancies in documentation that require attention and assist in maintaining complete and accurate clinical records. By completing intake paperwork and explaining program rules, you ensure clients understand their treatment pathways, whether through in-person interactions or phone consultations. You will leverage your knowledge of mental health care laws and guidelines, support clients in overcoming barriers to appointments, and engage with clients to re-establish treatment post-missed appointments. In this role, you will play a critical part in assessing clients’ financial and personal status while ensuring their eligibility for Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance programs. Your contributions will significantly enhance the mobile outreach unit's effectiveness in delivering premier healthcare services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services and 6 months of experience working with clinical documentation or Associates Degree in a medical specialty, Human Services or Business and one-year experience in working with clinical documentation or Three (3) years of specialized work experience including experience working in an accounts receivable environment, primarily assessing clients' financial ability to pay for services, either through an insurance plan or out-of-pocket.
  • Proficiency in assessing clients' financial abilities to cover service costs-whether through insurance or out-of-pocket.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of mental health care laws, including HIPAA and 42 CFR.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, and third-party billing practices.
  • Strong computational skills.
  • Ability to identify documentation trends.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with clients.
  • Ability to navigate complex financial and administrative policies.
  • The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
