About The Position

Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Clinic RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates individual patient care in the clinic according to policies and procedures. The Clinic RN assists physicians with clinical duties to ensure patients and families receive the highest quality care and knowledge, promoting patient wellness. The Clinic RN maintains standards of the State Nurse Practice Act. The RN Triage nurse is clinically competent to coordinate and deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. Uses critical thinking and appropriate provider consultation to work within scope of practice to the highest level of licensure and training. Engages in interdisciplinary collaboration which includes the use of available community resources.

Requirements

  • Education: Registered nurse degree from an approved school of nursing.
  • Licensure: Licensed to practice registered nursing in the state of ND or in a compact state.
  • CPR certified.

  • Experience: Preferred one year of hospital or clinic nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and manage workload in an environment where the nature and volume of calls is unpredictable.
  • Assist providers as needed, contributing to a smooth workflow in the department.
  • Coordinate and assist patients in scheduling acute, specialty, or routine care appointments, including referrals.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in applying clinical knowledge to the specific clinic setting.
  • Consider cultural, spiritual, and psychosocial factors that affect patient perception and adherence to healthcare plans when interacting with patients, families, support systems, and the community.
  • Utilize critical thinking and assessment skills to follow provider-approved protocols.
  • Contact pharmacies for medication refills for patients as needed.
  • Educate patients regarding test results and medical conditions, explaining medical terms and procedures in a manner understandable to patients.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of frequently utilized medications, researching any unfamiliar medications.
  • Develop familiarity with brand and generic medication names.
  • Maintain familiarity with all forms and paperwork utilized throughout the clinic.
  • Participate in the advancement of professional nursing practice through continuing education and self-development; develop and maintain professional credibility.
  • Demonstrate professional nursing leadership and contribute to a smooth workflow by assisting team members as needed.
  • Triage patient telephone calls and provide nursing care to patients in accordance with established nursing standards.
  • Work the Epic Inbasket and respond to symptom-based calls from patients.
  • Monitor and respond to MyChart messages from patients and other members of the care team.
  • Assist in scheduling tests, treatments, or procedures at other facilities.
  • Assess patient status to determine the need for treatment and respond to situations as necessary under the direction of a medical provider.
  • Utilize the nursing process to develop and implement a comprehensive plan of care for the patient/family, promoting optimal patient outcomes.
  • Meet the educational needs of patient/family/co-workers using principles of teaching/learning.
  • Delegate nursing care based on knowledge of staff qualifications/competency and patient care requirements.
  • Manage a busy practice in a professional manner, ensuring work accuracy and compliance with all required policies and agency regulations.
  • Evaluate unexpected and critical situations, weigh pertinent information, and make appropriate decisions with minimal assistance.
