The Outpatient Scheduler is responsible for performing all duties and standards within this job description according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines. This role involves scheduling patient appointments, obtaining and updating patient demographic and insurance information, and managing telephone responsibilities. The scheduler must answer calls promptly and professionally, record appointment requests, handle cancellations, notify patients of schedule changes, and relay information to appropriate staff. The position requires a sense of responsibility, initiative, honesty, and the ability to follow directions accurately, function under pressure, and cooperate with others. Maintaining high ethical standards, organization, good communication, and computer skills are essential. The scheduler will also complete annual skills validation, maintain competencies and education, ensure a safe and neat work area, maintain current schedules, uphold patient rights and privacy, and assist with patient activities as assigned. They are expected to demonstrate responsibility for continuous improvement, practice quality service, maintain supplies, report malfunctioning equipment, and attend staff meetings. The role involves close collaboration with physician office staff to manage schedules and eliminate difficulties. Confidentiality, adherence to hospital dress code, safety policies, and participation in in-service education are also required.
