The Outpatient Scheduler is responsible for performing all duties and standards within this job description according to the established policies, procedures and guidelines outlined in the department and organization wide policy and procedure manuals. This role involves scheduling patient appointments, obtaining and updating patient information including demographics and insurance, and managing telephone responsibilities such as answering calls, recording appointment requests, and notifying patients of schedule changes. The scheduler must possess a sense of responsibility, initiative, honesty, and the ability to follow directions accurately, function under pressure, and cooperate with others. Maintaining high ethical standards, being organized, and having good communication and computer skills are essential. The position requires working flexible hours, completing annual skills validation, maintaining competencies and education, and ensuring a safe and neat work area. Other duties include maintaining current schedules, upholding patient’s rights and privacy, assisting with patient activities, demonstrating continuous improvement, practicing quality service, maintaining supplies, reporting malfunctioning equipment, and attending staff meetings. The scheduler organizes all schedules and works closely with physician office staff to prevent difficulties. Confidentiality, adherence to hospital dress code and safety policies, teamwork, and participation in in-service education are also required.
