About The Position

You're the kind of climber who can coach a solid heel hook, run a tight roster, and still notice when someone needs help at the front desk. This is a full-time role built for someone who wants to lead programs and stay grounded in daily gym operations. This position anchors full-time hours by combining Climbing Programs Lead responsibilities with Gym Staff shifts. When you're leading programs, you're operating at a higher level of coordination and instruction. When you're on gym staff shifts, you're supporting the broader member experience. Together, it creates a stable, benefits-eligible role designed for long-term commitment. The Front builds innovative climbing spaces designed to inspire connection, progression, and community. We care about operational excellence, strong leadership, and creating meaningful third places for the outdoor community. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position split approximately 50/50 between: Climbing Programs Lead ($18–$21/hr DOE) Gym Staff ($17–$19/hr) Hours may flex based on operational needs across Salt Lake City and South Main locations. When functioning as Programs Lead, you'll support the Senior Climbing Programs Manager in coordinating adult programs, ensuring instructional quality, and maintaining operational precision. When functioning as Gym Staff, you'll serve as a front-line ambassador of the facility-managing memberships, monitoring safety, supporting events, and keeping daily operations sharp. This role is ideal for someone with "hybrid athlete + organizer" energy-comfortable coaching on the wall and managing logistics behind the scenes.

Requirements

  • Have 5+ years of professional experience (workforce, higher education, or trade school)
  • Have at least 2 years of climbing instruction experience
  • Have experience coordinating or supporting adult climbing programs
  • Are confident with belay systems, climbing technique, and risk mitigation
  • Are comfortable using Rock Gym Pro or similar management software
  • Have strong operational instincts and attention to detail
  • Can balance customer service with enforcement of safety standards
  • Work well cross-functionally and communicate clearly
  • Thrive in evenings, weekends, and flexible scheduling environments
  • CWI Certification
  • SafeSport Certification
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Utah Alcohol Certification

Responsibilities

  • Support and execute adult climbing classes, clinics, and group offerings
  • Deliver high-quality, skill-appropriate instruction
  • Coordinate coverage, scheduling, and communication with instructors
  • Manage class logistics in Rock Gym Pro (setup, rosters, enrollment tracking)
  • Uphold risk management standards and monitor belay technique
  • Oversee equipment organization and instructional spaces
  • Collaborate with Setting, Front Desk, Marketing, and Risk teams
  • Contribute to enrollment growth and retention efforts
  • Welcome members and guests; manage check-ins and waivers
  • Sell memberships, merchandise, and promote events
  • Answer calls and provide knowledgeable climbing guidance
  • Monitor the climbing floor and enforce safety standards
  • Conduct belay tests and autobelay orientations
  • Perform cleaning and facility upkeep tasks
  • Support competitions, vendor events, and community programming
  • Maintain a proactive, solution-oriented presence on shift
