About The Position

The Office of the Municipal Public Defender (OMPD) seeks a Client Support Team Supervisor. This individual will supervise 4 Peer Support Specialists and a Bilingual Outreach Case Coordinator and will lead the day-to-day operations of the Client Support Team division. This role is a mix of administrative duties, supervising and supporting staff, direct service with clients, and collaboration with supervisors and front-line staff across OMPD. Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Two (2) years of experience working as a Peer Support Specialists, Peer Support supervision preferred
  • A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
  • By position, requires a current Certified Peer and Family Specialist Certificate (CPFS) by the Colorado State Certifying Body.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a peer support related certification: Colorado Peer & Family Specialist certificate/designation or a National Designation from NAADAC (NCPRSS) or Mental Health America – (CPRS)
  • Knowledge and experience with the Denver Criminal Justice system, court processes, public defense, including the role of the defense council
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience
  • Experience providing peer support services in a criminal justice or social services setting
  • Excellent communication skills including knowledge of motivational interviewing, active listening, feedback, empathy and validation
  • Knowledge of Denver metro resources, services, behavioral health treatment, and community supports
  • High level of organizational skills and ability to autonomously determine necessary tasks and complete work
  • Strong critical thinking, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
  • Skills in addressing the needs of people experiencing homelessness, individuals living with mental health and substance misuse conditions and other vulnerable populations
  • Strong ability to de-escalate situations
  • Demonstrated understanding of SAMSHA’s 10 Guiding Principles of Recovery, National Practice Standards for Peer Supports developed by the International Associations of Peer Supporters, and Trauma Informed Peer Support
  • Experience with interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary teams
  • Lived experience of mental health, substance use, trauma, and/or co-occurring conditions is highly valued
  • Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion
  • Multilingual is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and develops staff to ensure the delivery of quality, client-centered services; develops goals, documents and evaluates performance, provides regular feedback, identifies opportunities for improvement, and promotes self-care and wellness practices
  • Leads regular individual supervision and team meetings, ongoing training, and mentoring, for Peer Support Specialists (PSS) and the Bilingual Outreach Case Coordinator. Supports PSS staff in obtaining the Colorado Peer & Family Specialist certification
  • Manages day-to-day administration of the Client Support Team (CST), including workflow and case assignment, courtroom support and oversight, policies and procedures, and standard work processes to meet Division and Office goals
  • Develops and implements work plans, policies, procedures, schedules, and team calendar to ensure effective staffing and coverage across courtrooms, specialty dockets, and office
  • Assigns and reviews work, reviews ongoing cases to ensure program timelines and guidelines are met and that documentation is timely and accurate
  • Collaborates with Senior attorneys and interdisciplinary courtroom teams to proactively identify and resolve issues
  • Provides direct client support and coverage across adult and youth courtrooms, the Denver Detention Center, and OMPD’s office.
  • Coaches and trains staff to strengthen staff/team capacity in responding to client crises and complex needs
  • Builds professional relationships and networks with community resources and service providers across systems to develop referral processes and maximize available resources to improve access to services, treatment, and resources for OMPD clients
  • Champions justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives at OMPD and embed within all policies and practices
