About The Position

CLERK TYPIST (HELPS) - 12 Month Position DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS : The work involves the performance of standardized clerical tasks such as routine typing. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher ranking employee, who gives detailed instructions for new assignments and practices. Does related work as required.

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma including or supplemented by a course in typing
  • As required by law or statute, subject to medical examination including tuberculin (TB) test, at time of appointment
  • Subject to a suitability background check investigation, including fingerprinting, local law enforcement check, and verification check of citizenship/residency
  • A criminal record does not necessarily disqualify applicants from employment, rather an individualized determination will be made
  • Office clerical experience, including typing, may be substituted for the high school requirement on a year for year basis
  • Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements

Responsibilities

  • Purchasing, managing supplies
  • Types forms, form letters, bills, vouchers, records, reports, and similar materials
  • Collects money and accounts for petty cash
  • Answers telephone, take messages, relays information directly or over intercommunication system
  • Assists in the preparation of payrolls
  • Files correspondence, memoranda, reports and other materials
  • Acts as receptionist, directing callers to the proper person or office; and gives information of a routine nature
  • Operates other office machines
  • Responsible for incoming and outgoing mail to the District Indexes materials
  • Utilizes enhanced computer systems and equipment in the completion of assigned clerical tasks
  • Monitors door security
  • Operates web-based security control system
