The Civilian Jury Bailiff provides for the care of jurors and other Court officials of Vilas County. This position is selected by the Clerk of Court, in consultation with the Presiding Circuit Court Judge, and serves at the discretion of these supervisors. This is a temporary non-benefited position which requires a great deal of flexibility regarding the work schedule due to last minute cancellation of jury trials. Short notification to report to work and occasional work beyond the normal closing time of 4:00 PM can be expected. Additionally, jury trials can vary in length from one to five days or longer. This position will be used as an on-call position only, with no guaranteed hours or schedule. A jury bailiff serves an as important link between the court, the jurors and the public. While court is in session, the bailiff will assist the judge and jurors and assure compliance within strict guidelines and procedures of the court. This position involves a great deal of public interaction. As a liaison between the courts and the public, a jury bailiff should properly reflect the duties and office of the court as to maintain the respect and dignity of the judicial branch of government. A jury bailiff serves an as important link between the court, the jurors and the public. While court is in session, the bailiff will assist the judge and jurors and assure compliance within strict guidelines and procedures of the court.
