About The Position

APPLICANTS MUST BE PERMANENT IN THE CLERICAL ASSOCIATE CIVIL SERVICE TITLE The Office of General Counsel is recruiting for a Clerical Associate III to function as LPCU Clerical Support Associate within the Litigation and Program Counseling Unit of the Office of Legal Affairs. The Litigation and Program Counseling Unit (LPCU) represents the Agency in litigation and provides legal counsel to the majority of program areas within the New York City Department of Social Services/Human Resources Administration, including those that administer cash assistance, emergency assistance, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Medicaid, home care services, services for survivors of domestic violence and clients living with HIV/AIDS, and supportive and career services. LPCU represents the Agency in Article 78 and other proceedings in Supreme and Civil Court, provides litigation support to the New York City Law Department on class action and other major litigation and appeals, and provides legal counsel to program areas on the impact of complex laws and regulations on the administration of benefits and services to low-income New Yorkers and vulnerable populations. The Clerical Associate III will provide administrative, clerical, and limited litigation support to the Litigation and Program Counseling Unit.

Requirements

  • APPLICANTS MUST BE PERMANENT IN THE CLERICAL ASSOCIATE CIVIL SERVICE TITLE
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
  • Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.

Responsibilities

  • Provides litigation support to the unit, including the following tasks: file copies of court papers and other legal documents; prepare blue back covers and exhibits for court papers; contact program areas/ law offices/ landlords/ court clerks by telephone and/or written correspondence to request and secure necessary information and forms.
  • Assists attorneys with various tasks, which may involve: copying, organizing, assembling, and scanning documents; organizing and maintaining electronic filing systems; filing documents and maintaining files; and mailing documents (creating envelopes or mailing labels, obtaining postage from mail room, and depositing packages in official depositories or outgoing mail).
  • Prints and assembles data from various computer systems, including, but not limited to, the Welfare Management System (WMS), New York City Work, Accountability and You (NYCWAY), Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), COLD/Webcoins, HRA One Viewer, SEAMS, and Finance.net.
  • Prepares unit requisition forms for necessary office supplies.
  • Performs other related office and administrative functions, which may include: scheduling meetings and reserving conference rooms; troubleshooting office equipment; and facilitating delivery of documents and packages by messenger.
  • Receives, date stamps, and distributes incoming mail for LPCU.
