We have an opening for a Classification Specialist to work independently following established procedures to manage classified Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and declassification activities within OCEC. This position is within the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Directorate. This position may offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options, may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization. In this role, you will: Serve as resource on interpretation of procedures relating to Classification Program Operations. Serve as OCEC point-of-contact with the Laboratory and Livermore Site Office for FOIA classification requests and document declassifications, ensure that transmittal documentation meets DOE criteria. Synthesize complex classification-related information and organize, simplify and clearly present information in documents and presentations for internal and external audiences. Research, analyze, interpret, write and apply knowledge of OCEC-related policy and DOE directives in accordance with DOE/NNSA/LLNL requirements and guidelines, and take lead in developing and communicating complex solution(s) or response(s). Manage OCEC electronic and hard-copy files; develop and maintain well-organized evidence files and work closely with federal auditors when they review these files. Serve as a classification policy Subject Matter Expert, which would involve supporting the OCEC Senior Security Analyst with program self-assessments and will assist in determining program readiness for evaluations. Assist senior level security analyst in the analysis, development, and implementation of classification-related policies, procedures, methods, and practices. Collect and validate operational/administrative data and prepare required reports. Contribute to the development and implementation of new classification procedures specific to OCEC operations. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree, in security, science, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience.
  • Experience functioning effectively as a team member as well as working independently with a high degree of maturity, discretion, and judgment.
  • Experience working effectively under limited supervision in a fast-paced environment and the demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills necessary to recommend appropriate actions and solutions.
  • Experience working collaboratively on projects and the proven ability to build strong relationships with team members and clients.
  • Experience providing support for self-assessments and audits.
  • Proficiency with personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to interact with diplomacy and tact with a wide variety of personnel and disciplines internal and external to the Laboratory.
