Receives, reviews, evaluates and investigates claims against Dallas County to determine cause and extent of damages and negotiates (adjusts) and makes recommendations involving county owned property and vehicles and makes recommendations regarding the settlement of claims with involvement from the civil attorneys of the District Attorney's Office as appropriate, including assisting in risk management (workers compensation) subrogation. 1. Conducts initial processing on claims against Dallas County including claims regarding jails and inmates, MH/MR death cases, workers compensation subrogation and other claims to determines Dallas County's liability. 2. Authority to settles claims of less than $1,000 and makes recommendations regarding settlement of claims in excess of $1,000 and identifies third party situations and seeks third party subrogation. 3. Investigates accidents involving county-owned vehicles and/or Property determines the extent of any injuries and damages (including review of medical records, billing, pharmacy, etc.). Investigates how, when, where, and why incidents occurred. 4. Appraises vehicles. 5. Assists in the development, communication, and implementation of risk management programs which include safety procedures and procedures for claim and accident reporting procedures. 6. Coordinates with the HR department's workers compensation specialist regarding the investigation of Workers' Compensation subrogation claims to determine extent and cause of injuries and makes recommendation or assist in negotiating settlement. 7. Compiles data and prepares reports as directed by supervisors. 8. Assists the District Attorney's Civil section in trial preparation as directed. 9. Participates in mediation as requested. 10. Performs other duties as assigned.Education, Experience and Training: Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, Risk, Criminal Justice or in a job related field of study. Three (3) years' experience in evaluating, adjusting and negotiating claims, civil litigation, and/or insurance defense investigation required. Licensed Texas Adjustor. Valid Texas Driver's license and good driving record
