Represent DFPS in court hearings, bench trials, jury trials, and required non-court meetings. Review, investigate, and prosecute civil cases; present cases before judges and juries. Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs. Collaborate with DFPS caseworkers, supervisors, regional attorneys, attorneys’ ad litem, and CASA supervisors and volunteers. Provide 24/7 legal advice during on-call weeks (every third week). Mentor and assist other employees; assign and review work as needed. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.
  • Licensed by the Texas Supreme Court.
  • Certified in the Federal District Court, Southern District of Texas and Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant legal experience; preference for family law and child protective services.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public, colleagues, and elected officials.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License is required.
