About The Position

The part-time Circus Preparator works within the Tibbals Learning Center, Historic Circus Galleries, The Howard Brothers Circus Model, and with historic circus artifacts within The Ringling's Circus Collection. This role reports directly to the Tibbals Exhibition Manager, while working with the larger Circus team, handling, installing, transporting, framing, packing/crating, lighting, A/V, rigging, and fabricating casework and supports of objects within the museum's custody.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Valid Florida driver's License or ability to obtain prior to hire.
  • Please note a driver's permit is not acceptable.
  • Ability to deadlift 50 lbs. or more, climb ladders, work in small spaces, and at heights of 25 feet or more

  • Experience with: Matting/Framing
  • Experience with: Museum collections policies and procedures
  • Experience with: Art/Artifact transportation and/or packing
  • Background or interest in Art, Art History, or Circus History

Responsibilities

  • Object handing for installations and collections care
  • Helping with The production of exhibitions
  • Making exhibition furniture (Using power tools)
  • The installation and maintenance of exhibitions
  • Maintaining A/V and computers used in exhibitions
  • Maintaining Lighting systems (Using ladders and lifts)
  • Monitoring environment to include the safety of objects and condition of exhibitions
  • Performing other duties and projects as assigned that support museum operations, including general assistance for the Circus department at the museum
