About The Position

The Northville District Library seeks a service driven and proactive candidate for a part-time position in the Library’s Circulation Services Department. 21 Hours per week, including some weekends and evenings This is a Union Position Benefits: Paid time off includes sick, vacation, holiday, and personal business time

Requirements

High school diploma
Ability to learn quickly, accurately, and follow instruction all while using critical thinking skills
Ability to prioritize duties and tasks
Ability to push carts of library books and other materials
Ability to stand, sit, and walk for long periods of time, and the ability to bend, reach,
stoop, or crouch
Experience working independently and as part of a team
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Strong public service orientation
Willingness to seek assistance as needed in answering questions from library patrons or resolving conflicts

Nice To Haves

Knowledge and proficiency (preferred) in working with computers (Windows OS), cash register, credit card machine, and common office equipment

Responsibilities

Answers incoming calls and directs library visitors and callers to the appropriate public service desks
Assists with library account maintenance, database maintenance, and special departmental projects
Carries out procedures for accurately checking library materials in and out of our library system
Handles monetary transactions
Issues library cards according to the library policy
Monitors incoming materials for damaged or missing pieces and takes appropriate action
Processes interlibrary loan materials
Provides positive, pleasant, and professional service to the public at the Circulation Desk
Sorts and distributes delivery items
Performs related duties as assigned
