About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Library and/or Designee, performs assigned duties necessary for the development and implementation of public programs for including, but not limited to: education, literacy, literature, educational and craft programs, culture, technology, and career growth. Coordinates, markets and/or participates in local events and activities representing City and Library programs.

Requirements

  • A Master's Degree in Library Sciences from an accredited educational institution of higher learning and five (5) years of work related experience in Library Sciences and/or Library management are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to read letters, memos, contracts, professional and industry literature, spreadsheets and other job related analysis is required.
  • Work requires substantial independent judgment and decision-making.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point software.
  • Must be able to research, compile and analyze data, and then present findings to management in an acceptable format.
  • Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
  • Must be able to monitor and assess operations, workload, projects, and staff performance.
  • Must be able to work successfully under high demands, short time constraints, and pressure of a fast-paced, ever-adapting work environment.
  • Work is widely varied, involving analyzing and evaluating many complex and significant variables.
  • Must remain up-to-date on Federal, State and City regulations, best practices and policies affecting department- and job-related activities.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City and other public employees, public officials, contractors, consultants, vendors, and the general public.
  • Must learn and be competent in the use of the Library's various software systems (e.g., Koha, Aspen, etc.), and establish and maintain effective support relationships with technology vendors (e.g., Envisionware, Bibliotheca, TechLogic, etc.).
  • Must possess the ability to interpret and apply cataloging standards like the rules of the Anglo American Cataloging Rules (AACR2), Resource Description and Access (RDA), Library of Congress, Library Congress Subject Headings, MARC21, and the online computer Library Center (OCLC) manuals and cataloging and classifying material.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver license.
  • Must pass all post-offer pre-employment processes and/or procedures, to include but not limited to Drug Screen, Physical Examination, and applicable Background Checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years experience in Library management strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises circulation Staff through the designation of assignments and schedules, as well as conducts performance evaluations. Responsible for division time keeping. Performs office management duties to ensure the integrity and maintenance of front desk operations, to include cash management for processing of fees and refunds, and being responsible for the opening and closing of all related facilities. Monitors office equipment to ensure proper working order and replacement of offices supplies.
  • Performs assigned duties necessary for the development and implementation of public programs for including, but not limited to: education, literacy, literature, educational and craft programs, culture, technology, and career growth. Coordinates, markets and/or participates in local outreach events and activities representing City and Library programs. Coordinates, markets, and educates staff on Maker equipment like the laser cutter, embroidery machine, button maker and others.
  • Performs assigned duties necessary for the development and maintenance of community partnerships with the local school district and business, consortium members, and other city departments.
  • Performs assigned duties necessary for the promotion and marketing of library services, events, and collections via approved social media platforms.
  • Performs duties to support the circulations division to ensure the proper collection and display of all literature, periodicals, records, films, videos, and other related library materials. Duties include but are not limited to staffing the Circulation desk, handling maintaining inventory records, shelving of literature, drop off and check-in of library materials, and overseeing “returns” and unpacking and sorting materials.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
