About The Position

The Production Superintendent serves as a member of the Chilled Water Systems Management Team and is the subject matter expert for chilled water production equipment and plant operations across central campus plants and standalone locations. This leadership role is responsible for the supervision of all production personnel within the Chilled Water Systems organization (X FTE direct reports and X indirect reports). Scope includes chillers, cooling towers, condenser and chilled water pumps, air compressors, air handlers, heat exchangers, water treatment systems, and ancillary equipment required to reliably produce chilled water. Key responsibilities include supervision, performance management, maintenance planning and execution, plant operations, budget planning, regulatory compliance, and contractor oversight. The Production Superintendent ensures safe, reliable, and efficient chilled water production to support campus comfort cooling, process cooling, and dehumidification needs. This position supervises 6 FTE .

Requirements

  • Four (4) years’ experience in applicable utility operations/maintenance, including three (3) years of supervisory experience to include formal performance management experience; or an equivalent combination of experience, training, and education.
  • Strong knowledge of chilled water production equipment, operations, and systems: chillers, cooling towers, condenser/chilled water pumps, air compressors, air handlers, distribution to plant headers, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Working knowledge of methods, practices, tools, and materials used in the maintenance and repair of industrial equipment and machinery.
  • Working knowledge of plant operating principles and techniques, including startup/shutdown procedures, load management, water treatment, and reliability-centered maintenance.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records/reports and present findings when requested.
  • Ability to manage budget, purchase requisitions, and contractor oversight.
  • Formal supervisory experience to include performance management, recruitment, training, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive maintenance and operations experience with central chilled water plants and standalone sites.
  • Experience with optimization of chiller plants, including sequencing, condenser water optimization, and integration with building automation/ SCADA systems (e.g., Citect, VTScada).
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems ( CMMS ), preferably MAXIMO .
