Working Environment: Working Ranch & Guest Hospitality Summary: The Children's Program Supervisor assists the Children’s Program Manager in managing counselors who handle the program for children ages 3 through 17 years old. This person must be energetic, have contagious enthusiasm, strong work ethic, and have a strong passion for working with children. They must know and love all three programs (Teens, Mustangs, and Cowpokes) and be familiar with all horses used for kids, teens, and counselors. The Children’s Program Supervisor is a riding position and requires advanced knowledge of horsemanship, but more importantly, this role requires an individual who truly loves working with children. During months that the Children’s Program is not offered, (September – April) the Children’s Program Supervisor will cover Little Ranch Hands needs, serve as a wrangler in the barn, and will sometimes float to other departments such as housekeeping and Food & Beverage when in need. This individual will also be expected to help cover night activities like Karaoke, Bingo, Trivia, and Indoor Arena Events. It is paramount that the Children’s Program Supervisor exercises good common sense so that all activities will be conducted in a safe manner. The job of the Children’s Program Supervisor is to assist the Children’s Program Manager in running a well-organized, successful, safe, and fun Children’s Program! Ability to work Holidays, evenings, and weekends required.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education (college or vocational training) preferred.
  • Industry Experience: Previous hospitality or customer service experience preferred
  • Childcare Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a childcare setting preferred.
  • Must have a current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Strong Organizational Skills.
  • Intermediate skills with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and AI programs.
  • Must have strong background in working with children of all ages.
  • Hospitality operations knowledge and experience preferable.
  • Knowledge of horsemanship, riding, and teaching riding lessons preferred.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • This role is an on-Ranch role only and will work variable hours and shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong preference will be given to those with a college degree majoring in early childhood education.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in hiring a team of approximately 17 capable and enthusiastic counselors who can work Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend.
  • Work in the barn as a wrangler or in other departments such as housekeeping and Food & Beverage when needed if there are no children on ranch.
  • Provide counselors with the tools and training needed to ensure they can safely conduct activities for the Children’s Program.
  • Coverage of night activities (Bingo, Karaoke, Indoor Arena Events, Trivia)
  • Help cover Little Ranch Hands needs when Children’s Program is not operating (September – April)
  • Assist in riding through kid, teen, and counselor horses prior to Memorial Day Weekend.
  • Demonstrate sound horsemanship skills and the ability to ride and perform groundwork with project horses.
  • Have a strong knowledge of the specific children and teen horses and which age, and experience level they are best suited. Assist in monitoring usage and rest of horses to maintain optimal performance.
  • Teach riding lessons to member children and guest children.
  • Assist the CPM in appropriately grouping kids and teens based on age and horse experience. Assign a suitable counselor to the group.
  • Meet with Barn Management prior to every week to make a horse list for kids, teens, and counselors.
  • Attend Sunday afternoon horse assignments with Children’s Program Manager.
  • Attend Sunday night orientation with the Children’s Program Manager.
  • Assist in conducting enthusiastic Monday morning orientation for all Mustangs and Teens.
  • Assist in Barn Monday morning to make sure all kid, teen and counselor horses are tacked up in the correct saddle and at the trail (kid or teens). Basic understanding of saddle fit, and tack maintenance required.
  • Lead safe mount ups for kid/teen groups and dispatch trail rides.
  • Help train counselors on all trail rides, evening activities, and entertainment.
  • Assist CPM in organizing the ordering for all prizes and presents needed for carnival, bingo, and Christmas Eve.
  • Be “Santa’s Helper” on Christmas Eve making sure all guests receive a present that is appropriate for their age.
  • Management of Children’s Program and Little Ranch Hands when CPM is off or away.
  • Assist in creating new and fun programming to keep Little Ranch Hands fresh and exciting all year long.
  • Honor the long-standing traditions of the C Lazy U Children’s Program.
  • Incorporate innovative ideas into the Children’s Program to keep the program exciting and interesting.
  • Assist in maintaining all equine tack and equipment.
  • Weekly Meetings with Barn Management, Children’s Program Manager, and counselor team.
  • Create weekly schedules following budget parameters and approve payroll for Counselors when CPM is off or away.
  • Working successfully with the Children’s Program Manager.
  • Working successfully with Barn Management and Lead Wranglers.
  • Must respond confidently and efficiently in emergency, accident, and injury incidents.
  • Other assignments as required.
