About The Position

The Children’s Program Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of prevention and early-intervention programming serving children impacted by substance use disorders and related family challenges. Hanley Foundation is a non-profit organization with a mission to eliminate addiction through prevention, advocacy, treatment, and recovery support. We seek an ambitious Children’s Program Coordinator to join our team. Grounded in the evidence-informed principles of the National Association for Children of Addiction (NaCOA), this position supports children in building resilience, strengthening protective factors, and reducing risk associated with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), trauma exposure, and family substance use. The Coordinator ensures that programs align with Hanley Foundation’s mission to eliminate addiction through prevention, advocacy, treatment access, and recovery support while promoting healthy children, families, and communities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Counseling, Public Health, or related field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience working with children or families impacted by behavioral health or substance use disorders.
  • Experience facilitating youth groups or educational programming.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and child development principles.
  • Willing to undergo a background check and drug screening, by local law/regulations (level 2 background screening).
  • Valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and willingness and ability to drive for work purposes.
  • Able to travel and deliver public presentations.
  • Able to work extended hours (early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekend hours) as needed.
  • If in recovery, one year of continuous sobriety is required.
  • Strong presentation and group facilitation skills.
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills, including interactive public speaking and active listening.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to adhere to deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and excellent judgement.
  • Effective advocate of Hanley Foundation and its programs.
  • Able to promote services in the community.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Strong computer/technical skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Team player with the ability to be effective independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Training or certification in NaCOA Children’s Program models (or willing to complete).
  • Prevention Specialist Certification (CPS) or Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) preferred, or eligibility.
  • Experience working within prevention or recovery-oriented systems of care.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate children’s prevention and support programs for youth affected by parental or family substance use.
  • Implement age-appropriate curricula consistent with NaCOA principles, including: Education about addiction as a disease; Emotional literacy and coping skills; Healthy communication and boundary setting; Reduction of shame, secrecy, and stigma.
  • Support delivery of programs in schools, community settings, treatment environments, and family recovery programs.
  • Adapt programming to meet cultural, developmental, and community needs.
  • Provide group facilitation for children and families.
  • Promote protective factors, including resilience, connection, and help-seeking behaviors.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, treatment teams, schools, and community partners to ensure continuity of support.
  • Maintain trauma-informed and strengths-based engagement practices.
  • Apply NaCOA core messages for children affected by addiction:
  • Ensure programming reflects evidence-based programming and child development standards.
  • Maintain program fidelity to approved models and curricula.
  • Schedule program delivery statewide in coordination with prevention staff.
  • Maintain accurate participation, outcome, and performance data consistent with grant reporting requirements.
  • Assist with evaluation activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support grant deliverables related to children’s prevention programming.
  • Build partnerships with schools and school districts, behavioral health providers, and community and faith-based organizations.
  • Represent Hanley Foundation at community meetings and outreach events.
  • Support awareness initiatives focused on children and families impacted by addiction.
  • Ensure confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and applicable child protection standards.
  • Maintain documentation aligned with funding requirements.
  • Participate in required training and professional development.
