About The Position

Teller County's Department of Human Services located in Woodland Park, CO is seeking an experienced supervisor to provide leadership, coordination, and consultation in the planning and delivery of services for a unit/section that provides child welfare intake and prevention services and programs, including Youth in Conflict and Child Protection. This position will be responsible for supervising 5-7 personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in social or behavioral science
  • Five (5) years of post-degree experience providing social services, including three (3) years of experience at or above Social Caseworker III level
  • Knowledge of: principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Knowledge of: management and supervisory principles and methods
  • Knowledge of: human behavior, grieving, loss, abnormal behavior, substance abuse, child abuse and domestic violence
  • Knowledge of: law and court systems
  • Knowledge of: applicable statutes and regulations including Children’s Code and other rules and regulations pertaining to adult and child welfare
  • Knowledge of: case work principles case planning and practices
  • Knowledge of: community development and organization
  • Skilled in: use of basic computer software programs
  • Skilled in: understanding and applying pertinent laws, rules, regulations and policies
  • Skilled in: using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines

  • Successful completion of the Colorado State Supervisor Training Academy within established timeline.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, implement and oversee work in assigned programs and functions.
  • Direct work of assigned staff to ensure unit and hotline coverage, efficiency, and effectiveness in managing caseload; assign specific duties according to staff knowledge and skill; provide supervision and consultation in accomplishing tasks; ensure staff compliance with training and certification requirements; provide written and verbal instructions to staff to explain policies and procedures to facilitate quality professional practices.
  • Develop systematic methods of implementing and monitoring, programming, including decision-making on screening and assessment of child abuse and neglect referrals to ensure child safety, adherence to required timeframes, and compliance with county, state and federal regulations; review and approve assessments for completion including risk and safety assessments and contact documentation; participate and lead in Review Evaluate and Direct (RED) Team meetings.
  • Lead weekly unit meetings to discuss updates and establish and monitor guidelines; implement Intake unit and program objectives in conjunction with the Ongoing unit.
  • Determine resources required to achieve goals and priorities; interview and participate in the selection and hiring of employees for unit and agency.
  • Prepare, review and edit reports and correspondence as needed; maintain accurate, complete and confidential case records; compile and report monthly intake data.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and the community as the representative of the Department to coordinate programs to develop joint projects, implement more effective and efficient services and provide training and workshops; build positive relationships with law enforcement, schools, court and service providers.
  • Conducts and participates in staff meetings and consultations with caseworkers; meets with each caseworker in the unit per supervision protocol to discuss assessments and address caseworker performance; conducts annual formal performance evaluations and goal setting with staff.
  • Collects, reports and monitors unit statistics, data, outcomes and performance; approves and routes service authorizations.
  • Responsible for participation in Judicial District IV meetings and other county/regional and state meetings and conferences; attend court hearings and testify as needed.
  • Resolve concerns, complaints and appeals from staff, clients, agencies and/or State Complaint office.
  • Serve as liaison with community partners and stakeholders; participate in inter-agency committees and meetings as required.
