About The Position

This position provides lower-level case management assistance and support for Child Welfare Specialists (CWS), clients, client families, and other interested parties. It involves performing administrative support tasks, general office duties, inputting case documentation, compiling social and economic data, scheduling and assisting in meetings with clients, parents, and other interested parties. The role also includes scheduling appointments for doctor visits, family visitations, and court appearances, as well as arranging or providing transportation for children and clients. The assistant will interview clients and their families, reporting findings to the assigned CWS, and advise clients on available child welfare services and resources, providing specific program information and referring to community resources for assistance. The position may be located in Norman or Purcell, Oklahoma, requires extensive travel, and is part of the Oklahoma Civil Service.

Requirements

  • For Child Welfare Assistant I: Six months of experience in general office clerical work, providing care for children in a licensed day care facility, sales, or public contact work; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting six months of technical or vocational training course work or the completion of 15 semester hours from a college or university for the required experience.
  • For Child Welfare Assistant II: One year of clerical experience in a governmental or non-profit social services provider environment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting thirty semester hours of college for the required experience.
  • For Child Welfare Assistant III: One year of clerical experience in a governmental or non-profit social services provider environment plus two additional years of clerical experience in a child welfare environment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting thirty semester hours of college for the required experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must maintain required car insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules required appointments for doctor visits, family visitations, court appearances, and others; arranges or provides transportation for children and clients.
  • Interviews clients and their families and reports findings to assigned CWS.
  • Advises clients of available child welfare services and resources; provides specific program information to clients and may refer to community resources for assistance.
