The Team You’ll Work With: The New York City Mayor’s Office of Childcare and Early Childhood Education (OCCECE) was created to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach to child care and early education across the city. The OCCECE office ensures a holistic and coordinated approach to child care and early education policy across the City by building responsive systems that are centered on parent and caregiver-choice, supporting providers, and delivering high quality options for families. The Office serves as a central hub for citywide policy implementation and coordination across the Department of Education (DOE), Administration of Children’s Services (ACS), Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), and Department of Social Services (DSS), and fosters strategic partnerships with private entities, nonprofits, and foundations committed to the efforts of the Childcare Quality and Innovation Initiative. This includes but is not limited to building a city-wide childcare and early education system which enables all families with children 0-5 years old to access high quality early education and care; and working with city agencies and private organizations to integrate financial resources to both maximize utilization of all funding streams and ensure a seamless system for children, families, and providers. The Problems You’ll Solve: The Chief of Staff will report to the Executive Director and support the work of the full OCCECE team. The Chief of Staff's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: - Supporting the Executive Director with day-to-day team management and project prioritization. - Tracking and coordinating priority work across the Office. - Preparing for and participating in key internal and external engagements. - Drafting communications, developing dashboards, and delivering presentations for high-level stakeholders, and other correspondence. - Researching, analyzing, and producing brief memos and reports. - Assisting with establishing standards and procedures. - Managing special projects and initiatives, requiring partnership with OCCECE team members, other City Hall offices, agency partners, and external stakeholders and funders. - Coordinating and managing data collection process, analysis, and public sharing of any data in partnership with City agency stakeholders and Mayor’s Office collaborators. - Working with OCCECE leadership to help guide projects through administrative hurdles and towards implementation. - Serving as a point of contact for OCCECE with internal and external stakeholders. - Performing other related duties incidental to the work listed above. About You: - You have former work experience in management consulting or similar fields. - You have excellent project management skills, from conception to completion: time management, multi-tasking, adherence to deadlines, organization of information and logistics, as well as analytical, research, and creative thinking and problem-solving strategies. - You have experience with program administration and coordination: developing data systems and analytical processes to drive program decision-making, coordinating and managing events, and partner management. - You have excellent communication skills: public speaking, presentations, interpersonal communication, and both formal and informal writing. - You have knowledge of New York City’s child care and early childhood education programs, including City and/or State government agencies responsible for implementation. - You have an empathic, understanding, and tactful approach to engaging community members in difficult conversation topics. - You can work well under pressure and maintain an enthusiastic work ethic, including embracing different work styles. - You demonstrate commitment to equity and public service. - You demonstrate cultural competency to effectively work with diverse populations.
