Technology: Innovative Network of Knowledge will provide this role with a company provided laptop, but the employee will secure and cover the cost for the operation of this technology in the virtual landscape of his/her home office. (internet, telephone, home office setup, etc.). Position Overview: Position Summary: The Chief of Staff (CoS), Academics serves as a strategic partner and leader to the Chief of Schools, acting as their right hand to ensure the effective, efficient, and high-quality operation of the school's academic program. This role is responsible for managing academic workflows, supporting instructional leadership, coordinating cross-functional initiatives, and ensuring that academic priorities move forward with clarity, urgency, and follow-through. In a fully online learning environment, the Chief of Staff plays a critical role in translating academic vision into execution-supporting teachers, instructional leaders, and academic staff while streamlining systems, processes, and communication across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Experience in K-12 education
  • Strong understanding of instructional practices and academic program management
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, remote environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of discretion, professionalism, and trustworthiness

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Academic Operations • Serve as a thought partner and trusted advisor to the Chief of Schools on academic strategy, priorities, and execution
  • Translate academic goals into clear action plans, timelines, and deliverables
  • Monitor progress on academic initiatives and ensure alignment with school-wide goals
  • Identify operational gaps or inefficiencies and propose solutions to improve academic effectiveness Academic Workflow & Process Management
  • Design, document, and refine academic processes, workflows, and workstreams to improve consistency and efficiency
  • Support the implementation of standardized academic practices (lesson structures, live instruction expectations, assessment cycles, etc.)
  • Ensure academic initiatives move from planning to execution with fidelity
  • Track academic projects, deadlines, and dependencies across teams
  • Be the trusted knowledgeable stakeholder in all LMS systems and virtual classrooms (ex. PowerSchool, Big Blue Button, Ascender)
  • Meeting Management & Executive Support • Plan, organize, and manage agendas for academic leadership meetings Academic Workflow & Process Management
  • Design, document, and refine academic processes, workflows, and workstreams to improve consistency and efficiency
  • Support the implementation of standardized academic practices (lesson structures, live instruction expectations, assessment cycles, etc.)
  • Ensure academic initiatives move from planning to execution with fidelity
  • Track academic projects, deadlines, and dependencies across teams
  • Be the trusted knowledgeable stakeholder in all LMS systems and virtual classrooms (ex. PowerSchool, Big Blue Button, Ascender)
  • Meeting Management & Executive Support • Plan, organize, and manage agendas for academic leadership meetings
  • Facilitate meetings as needed to keep discussions focused and outcomes clear
  • Capture notes, decisions, and action items; ensure follow-up and accountability
  • Prepare briefing materials, summaries, and data points for the Chief of Schools Instructional & Staff Support
  • Serve as a key support to academic staff, including teachers, instructional coaches, and academic leaders
  • Act as a liaison between the Chief of Schools and academic teams to ensure clear communication and alignment
  • Support onboarding, offboarding, training, and change management related to academic initiatives for staff along with others on the leadership team.
  • Help troubleshoot day-to-day academic operational challenges in a virtual environment
  • Work with the Operations team to inform, guide, transfer knowledge necessary for the smooth and efficient schooling of children Data, Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
  • Support the collection, organization, and review of academic data (attendance, engagement, instructional quality indicators, assessment results, etc.)
  • Assist in identifying trends and areas for improvement across the academic program
  • Support continuous improvement cycles and academic planning efforts
  • Partner with operations, technology, student support, and compliance teams to ensure academic needs are supported
  • Coordinate academic timelines with non-academic departments to reduce friction and improve execution
  • Ensure academic considerations are represented in cross-functional decisions Virtual School-Specific Responsibilities
  • Support systems and practices specific to online learning (live lesson structures, recordings, LMS use, virtual engagement expectations)
  • Help ensure consistency in the virtual student and teacher experience
  • Assist in scaling academic operations as enrollment grows
  • Support compliance and documentation related to virtual instruction and academic delivery Additional Responsibilities
  • Manage special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Chief of Schools
  • Represent the Chief of Schools in meetings as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned
