About The Position

About Boston Prep Boston Prep is a college-preparatory charter public district, made up of a single-site middle and high school. In 2026-2027, our community will include 700 students in grades 6-12, nearly 500 alumni, over 140 faculty members, and hundreds of families. The majority of our students and families reside in Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park. As a charter public school, we welcome all students via an impartial public lottery, and hold the same high expectations and ambitions for all of our students, including those with special needs and English language learners. As the Chief of Schools… You will be responsible for managing and coaching school leaders to ensure strong academic outcomes and a structured, joy-filled school culture that supports the achievement of our mission. This role ensures that every classroom reflects Boston Prep’s standard: calm, focused, and high-quality learning that prepares students for college and beyond. You will be responsible for translating Boston Prep’s mission, values, and strategic priorities into coherent systems, strong leadership practice, and measurable results. Hours for this position are 7:15 am- 4:15 pm, Monday-Friday (in-person).

Requirements

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required.
  • Successful completion of the Communication and Literacy MTEL and SEI endorsement.
  • 7-10+ years in education is preferred, including
  • Demonstrated track record of: Driving student achievement Building strong school culture Coaching and developing adults Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Successful experience as a school principal with strong results in a charter school setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership Coaching & Performance Management
  • Directly supervise and coach: Middle School Principal High School Principal Director of MLL Director of Special Education and Related Services
  • Conduct weekly coaching touchpoints and regular campus walkthroughs with school leaders
  • Lead principal observation and feedback cycles focused on: Instructional rigor and alignment to standards Classroom culture (fidelity to systems to foster calm and focused learning) Teacher effectiveness and feedback quality
  • Set clear performance expectations and hold principals accountable to: Academic achievement goals Culture metrics (behavior, engagement, consistency)
  • Lead midyear and end-of-year evaluations for principals
  • Instructional Excellence & Academic Systems:
  • Ensure all schools implement high-quality, standards-aligned instruction
  • Coach principals on: Data-driven instruction cycles Lesson internalization and planning rigor Observation and feedback systems for teachers
  • Partner with academic leadership to ensure: Curriculum fidelity Strong Tier 1 instruction across all classrooms
  • Ensure alignment between: Core instruction MLL supports (language acquisition, access to content) Special education services and accommodations
  • Monitor student achievement data and drive rapid response to gaps
  • Plan and oversee the execution of summer school
  • Student Culture & Learning Environment:
  • Ensure every school consistently delivers calm, safe, and focused classrooms
  • Codify and reinforce non-negotiable culture systems, including: Classroom routines and expectations Behavior systems (merits, demerits, referrals) Transitions and common spaces
  • Coach principals to: Build strong, consistent staff culture Maintain high expectations with warmth and clarity Address inconsistency with urgency
  • Ensure alignment between culture systems and instructional time maximization (“Every minute matters”)
  • Ensure the Ethics program is visible, rigorous, and embedded across the student experience
  • Professional Development & Leadership Development
  • Design and lead principal and leadership team development
  • Support school leaders to: Build strong adult culture Deliver high-quality professional development to staff
  • Oversees the professional development calendar structure for teachers, school leaders, and staff to accelerate student achievement across all student groups.
  • Design and oversee schoolwide professional development that builds educator instructional expertise and leadership capacity.
  • Organizational Leadership and Accountability
  • Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to organization wide strategic planning and decision making
  • Collaborate with other school leaders to ensure systems support effective teaching and learning.
  • Support organizational priorities including: Charter accountability and renewal readiness Reporting on academic and culture outcomes
