About The Position

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) has an exciting opening for a seasoned leader, visionary and dynamic marketing professional to fulfill the role of Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). As a national consulting firm with over 780 staff and 35 offices, GZA’s CMO will need to be experienced and passionate about the engineering and science consulting and construction industry, and will be collaborative, creative, practical, and capable of bridging the diversity of our markets and practitioners with an effective, technologically relevant marketing strategy. The desired base for this position is within our corporate office in Norwood, MA, while directly reporting to the CEO. This is a senior-level, C-suite position with the opportunity to own shares in our employee-owned company and the opportunity for advancement to the Principal level. As such, GZA seeks candidates who are interested in a career-defining engagement. The CMO is responsible for setting the course for GZA’s integrated marketing and communications program and helping GZA seize growth opportunities by building upon current initiatives and responding to emerging markets. The successful candidate will be leading an engaged marketing team operating under a currently successful marketing strategy, while bringing progressive thought, notable improvements, and fresh ideas to our strategy and the firm overall. In summary, the role will oversee all marketing activities, internal corporate communications involving best practices, trends, brand strategy, procedures, plans, and budgets. Key initiatives will involve supporting our local offices, teams of Principals, Practice Groups, and Corporate Business Development staff in their business development efforts, while also supporting client growth, both in geographic-based and niche markets. The CMO will lead our corporate Marketing department in the support of business development initiatives for our key Client Sectors through proposal and presentation support, brand advancement, content marketing, thought leadership, and client retention efforts. The present team of marketing specialists who report to the CMO consists of a Sr. Proposal Manager, Digital Content Manager, Sr. Graphic Designer/Digital Manager, and Sr. Marketing Communications Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Publishing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated progressively responsible marketing management and leadership roles.
  • Experience in developing and implementing Integrated Marketing Communication Plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations and presentation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Experience managing staff and interdisciplinary teams in a multi-office company.
  • Demonstrated professional judgment, consistency, and strong attention to detail.
  • Background of high-quality work products.
  • Independent analysis, problem solving, and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule and travel as necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Management, or Marketing preferred, but not required.
  • Marketing association participation/credentials and experience with an A/E/C or professional service firm preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare an annual marketing and communications plan and budget for review and approval by senior management.
  • Lead the implementation/execution of the integrated company marketing communications plan (digital, mobile, social, blogging, CRM lead nurturing, email marketing, video, public relations, advertising, event marketing, content marketing, qualifications, proposals and presentations, print brochures and collateral) to support marketing action plans for Client Sector leaders.
  • Drive the preparation of marketing content for our website for lead generation, client presentations, trade association presentations, and internal company meetings.
  • Ensure that Principals and technical staff are supported in business development activities and account-based marketing campaigns, and track progress annually.
  • Direct and streamline the processes and best practice standards for the effective and timely preparation of qualifications, proposals, and presentations; audit proposals so that best practices and branding standards are followed.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor marketing team members in various offices and prioritize staff resources to support business development activities for growing our business with our Client Sectors.
  • Oversee the department’s maintenance of CRM databases, email marketing efforts, and the organization of marketing collateral information on GZA’s SharePoint site and our Open Asset platform.
  • Develop and manage the various uses of AI in the creation of marketing materials.
  • Develop effective metrics to measure the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) performance of GZA’s website, social media, email marketing, and event marketing activities to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns in promoting specific new sales.
  • Maintain and enhance GZA’s client-centric brand; building our national reputation; supporting employer branding and recruitment and acquisition marketing; and directing integrated marketing communications and attribution initiatives to generate revenue and achieve our company’s strategic plan and vision.
