About The Position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic financial leadership and oversight of the organization's accounting operations. This part-time role ensures fiscal health, maintains compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and supports the organization's mission through sound financial management. The CFO is responsible for financial planning, grant financial compliance, accounting operations, audit oversight, and supervision of accounting staff.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (BA in Accounting strongly preferred)
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible financial management experience, including senior leadership roles
  • Experience managing finances for social service and/or behavioral health programs, with significant experience in grant-funded environments
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting standards (FASB/GAAP), donor-restricted contributions, and accounting for in-kind contributions
  • Knowledge of federal grant regulations (OMB Uniform Guidance) and nonprofit cost allocation principles
  • Demonstrated experience supervising finance or accounting staff
  • Proven ability in financial strategy development, forecasting, and modeling
  • Experience overseeing audits, internal controls, and compliance frameworks
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Experience with behavioral health billing, cost-reimbursement models, or complex multi-service organizations
  • Prior CFO or senior finance leadership experience within a nonprofit of similar size or scope

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic financial leadership to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Executive Team to support long-term organizational goals
  • Lead financial forecasting, multi-year budget planning, scenario modeling, and financial risk management
  • Develop and implement financial strategies that support organizational growth and mission alignment
  • Present clear financial updates, reports, and analyses to the Board Finance Committee and executive leadership
  • Oversee all financial aspects of grant management, including budget development, allowable costs, indirect cost rates, match/in-kind tracking, and financial reporting
  • Ensure accurate allocation and tracking of grant-funded expenses following OMB Uniform Guidance and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations
  • Partner with program leadership to ensure alignment between grant budgets, program deliverables, and compliance requirements
  • Monitor grant drawdowns, contract billings, invoicing, and reimbursements to maintain healthy cash flow
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB standards for nonprofits, OMB Uniform Guidance, and all applicable regulations
  • Maintain robust internal controls, financial policies, and procedures to ensure accuracy and protection of organizational assets
  • Oversee the preparation of annual audited financial statements and coordinate the external audit process
  • Ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Manage accounting for donor-restricted funds, unrestricted funds, gifts-in-kind, and contributions in accordance with FASB ASC 958 and other applicable standards
  • Ensure proper valuation, documentation, and reporting of in-kind contributions and donated goods and services
  • Directly supervise accounting and finance staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and ongoing professional development
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively and ensure the accounting team meets deadlines for reconciliations, reporting, and compliance activities
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment
  • Provide staff training on financial procedures, coding, documentation, and compliance with grant and donor requirements
  • Manage banking relationships and ensure strong cash management practices
  • Maintain appropriate reserves and monitor organizational liquidity
