About The Position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) oversees Esperanza Health Center's financial aspects, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, reimbursement, and strategic financial planning. This role ensures the organization's financial sustainability and compliance while contributing to the achievement of Esperanza's mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, health care administration, business or related field (or equivalent work experience). Master's degree preferred.
  • Desire 5-7 years of financial management experience, preferably in primary medical care.
  • Experience managing staff and leading teams.
  • Strong orga11izational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle many details and multiple priorities. Must be dependable and able to work under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Financial experience in a medical setting, particularly in a Federally Qualified Health Center, and experience in medical billing and grants management are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Participate as a core leadership team member in strategic planning, providing financial insights to support programmatic and organizational initiatives.
  • Lead the development of financial plans and strategies to ensure long-term fiscal health and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Establish and monitor financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate and report on the organization’s fiscal health.
  • Provide financial analysis and support for major decisions, including mergers, expansions, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Lead the annual budget process, working closely with management and leadership teams to accurately project trends and financial activities.
  • Oversee cash management in accordance with organizational policies and best practices.
  • Ensure the financial performance of grant programs, patient billing, and the operating and capital budgets.
  • Collaborate with clinical and operational leadership to align financial planning with program priorities.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard the organization’s financial assets and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and all pertinent federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Plan and execute the annual financial and compliance (A-133) audits.
  • Oversee the timely filing of payroll tax returns and the annual Form 990 following the completion of audits.
  • Administer grant reporting and compliance, including federal, state, and private grants (e.g., 330 FQHC, Ryan White Part C).
  • Manage and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and participate in departmental meetings, staff meetings, and monthly finance committee meetings.
  • Mentor staff, identifying opportunities for professional growth and skill development.
  • Leverage financial technologies and data analytics to enhance reporting, identify trends, and provide actionable insights for decision-making.
  • Promote the integration of innovative financial tools and systems to improve operational efficiency.
  • Communicate regularly with management to facilitate cross-departmental objectives and address budget variances collaboratively.
  • Present financial updates and reports at monthly board meetings, finance committee meetings, and other organizational gatherings.
  • Represent Christ and His mission within and outside the health center.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to further Esperanza's mission and vision.
  • Work on additional projects and tasks as needed or as the CEO requests.
  • Adhere to health center policies and procedures and recommend changes where appropriate.
