About The Position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a mission-driven financial leader who serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team at Goodwill Industries of Southern NJ & Philadelphia. The CFO is responsible for safeguarding the financial health of the organization while ensuring every fiscal decision reflects and reinforces Goodwill’s mission — transforming lives through education, training, and employment. This role goes beyond financial oversight; it requires a genuine belief in Goodwill’s purpose and the ability to connect financial strategy to life-changing social impact. The CFO will identify, secure, and steward the financial resources necessary to sustain and expand the organization’s mission services. Through innovation, transparency, and fiscal discipline, the CFO will enable Goodwill’s continued reinvestment into the communities it serves. The position is a member of the Corporate Office Team.

Requirements

  • Expertise in nonprofit accounting, retail/enterprise financials, grants management, and cash flow/treasury operations (cash management, banking, and liquidity).

  • High integrity, ethical judgment, and passion for community advancement through education and employment.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license in good standing.
  • Light lifting, 25-lbs. maximum with occasional frequent lifting and/or carry objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to engage in prolonged sitting, standing and/or walking.
  • Vision corrected to within normal limits.
  • Ability to work well in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive leadership in nonprofit or for-profit finance; experience with social enterprise, retail operations, or a production-driven environment, with a proven record of aligning productivity and operational excellence to profitability, growth, and long-term sustainability.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex budgets, audits, and compliance in multi-entity organizations.
  • Proven ability to identify and secure diverse funding sources in support of mission outcomes.
  • Experience with ERP and technology-driven financial systems that support scalable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Strategy: Serve as a trusted strategic partner to the CEO, COO, and Board, ensuring all financial strategies advance Goodwill’s mission and long-term sustainability.
  • Champion a mission-first mindset across all financial operations—balancing fiscal stewardship with social responsibility.
  • Lead strategic financial planning that integrates enterprise performance with Mission Services impact.
  • Inspire a culture of ethical leadership, continuous improvement, and shared accountability for financial and Mission outcomes.
  • Mission Investment & Resource Development: Actively identify and pursue new funding opportunities—including grants, government contracts, philanthropic support, and partnerships—to strengthen and diversify Goodwill’s revenue base.
  • Collaborate closely with Mission Services, Philanthropy, and Business Development teams to align fiscal planning with program growth and impact.
  • Ensure that both restricted and unrestricted funds are maximized to drive measurable outcomes in education, workforce development, and community reinvestment.
  • Translate financial results into meaningful insights that demonstrate the return on mission investment to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis: Oversee all budgeting, forecasting, and modeling functions, ensuring resources are strategically aligned with operational and mission priorities.
  • Evaluate performance across retail, logistics, and mission programs to inform decisions that optimize revenue and community impact.
  • Use data analytics to measure mission-driven ROI and to ensure every dollar spent advances Goodwill’s purpose.
  • Oversee capital planning, facilities investment analysis, and long-term asset strategy in partnership with Operations and the Executive Team to ensure infrastructure investments support sustainable growth and mission expansion.
  • Financial Operations & Compliance: Oversee accounting, banking, and financial reporting functions to ensure integrity, compliance, and transparency.
  • Maintain adherence to GAAP, CARF, federal and state regulatory standards, and nonprofit best practices.
  • Manage relationships with auditors, banks, and financial partners to uphold fiscal trust and accountability.
  • Lead enterprise risk management efforts, including the design and oversight of internal controls, fraud prevention strategies, insurance programs, and comprehensive business continuity planning to safeguard organizational assets and operational resilience.
  • People & Culture: Lead and mentor the Finance & Accounting team to become both strong fiscal stewards and passionate mission ambassadors.
  • Partner with HR to deliver training on financial literacy and resource stewardship to leaders across departments.
  • Foster collaboration and communication between financial and programmatic teams to ensure unity around Goodwill’s mission.
  • Champion Goodwill’s values of positive attitude, integrity, respect, service, stewardship and teamwork, ensuring operational staff and Mission Services teams are unified in advancing the mission.
