About The Position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will lead the financial strategy, planning, oversight, and reporting functions of the contracting/construction business. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably with 5+ years in construction or contracting finance.
  • Strong background in construction job costing, revenue recognition, forecasting, and project financial management.
  • Deep understanding of job costing, project financial reporting, retainage, and construction payment cycles.
  • Excellent financial strategy, modeling, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Leadership, collaboration, and project-oriented decision-making abilities.

  • Master’s degree (MBA, MAcc) or professional certification (CPA, CMA, CGMA).
  • Construction finance or related certifications (e.g., Construction Financial Management Association training).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute financial strategies that support company growth, project execution, and risk management.
  • Provide financial guidance to the CEO and leadership team for forecasting, capital expenditure decisions, mergers/acquisitions, growth strategy, and expansion plans.
  • Oversee construction accounting processes including job costing, project profitability analysis, retainage, and work in progress (WIP) reporting.
  • Partner with operations and project management teams to forecast financial outcomes and optimize construction finances.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital to support long project cycles and fluctuating payment schedules typical in construction.
  • Maintain strong banking relationships, bonding capacity, and construction-related credit facilities.
  • Lead annual operating and project budgets, monitor variances, and provide actionable insights.
  • Prepare accurate, timely GAAP-compliant financial statements and construction-specific internal reporting dashboards.
  • Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory requirements, and construction-related financial standards.
  • Assess financial risk for contracts, bonding requirements, insurance exposure, and subcontractor management.
  • Establish policies to ensure accurate job costing, profitability analysis, and timely cash collections, including managing retainage and change orders.
  • Drive cost containment and operational efficiencies across departments.
  • Influence key business decisions through financial modeling, scenario planning, and collaboration with project, operations, and executive teams.
  • Recruit, train, evaluate, and develop finance and accounting staff.
  • Assign and oversee major financial responsibilities and job costing workflows.
  • Enforce financial policies and best practices organization-wide.
