The College Preparatory School in Oakland, CA, is an independent coeducational secondary school created for intellectual risk-takers who want to pursue a purposeful education with kindred peers. Our mission is to prepare students for productive, ethical lives in college and beyond by fostering a stimulating education within an atmosphere of consideration, trust, and mutual responsibility. College Prep seeks a .75 time Chemistry teacher beginning in August 2026. This teacher would teach 3 sections of approximately 16 students, likely 2 core chemistry courses and an advanced chemistry elective each semester. The College Prep science program prioritizes rigor, critical thinking, and hands-on learning. Students are required to take Physics in 9 th grade, Chemistry in 10 th grade, and Biology in 11th grade. Nearly all of our students choose to take one or more science electives in 12th grade. Designed to prepare students for the depth and complexity of college-level courses, these include Anatomy and Physiology, Molecular Genetics, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Astronomy, Marine Biology, and Mechanics, Electricity, and Magnetism (among others). At College Prep, Science teachers share a spacious but cozy office where they regularly collaborate with one another and meet with students as needed. A convivial and collegial bunch, in addition to regular impromptu office chats, they meet monthly as a department, weekly as teaching teams. Candidates should be eager to spend additional time getting to know and help students outside of the classroom. College Prep teachers also take a share of other departmental, committee, and general school responsibilities, mostly during the 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. school day. Teachers thrive at College Prep when they partake in the opportunities offered by a rich co-curricular program and a tightly knit school that embraces equity and inclusiveness, and actively seeks to strengthen its ties to the greater Oakland community. As an equal opportunity employer, College Prep does not discriminate in its hiring of employees on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, creed, national origin, citizenship, marital or veteran status, age, or disability. We actively seek diversity among our faculty and administration as well as among our students.
