About The Position

As a Machine Operator at Wheatland Tube a division of Zekelman Industries, Rochelle, IL, you will be responsible for setting up and operating high-speed equipment with robotic elements to form or cut steel to specified dimensions and specifications. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, is detail-oriented, and is committed to safety, quality, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Manufacturing or related industrial experience, preferably in a production environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to read and write English and maintain accurate production records and logs.
  • Ability to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, decimals, and fractions.
  • Experience using measuring devices such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, and other equipment necessary for job completion.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently.
  • Commitment to leading and promoting health and safety work practices in accordance with regulatory agencies and company policy.
  • Ability to move objects using abdominal and lower back muscles for support over time without fatigue.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs requiring good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for several hours as needed.
  • Ability to lift, climb, bend, stoop, push, and pull.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for 10–12 hours.
  • Ability to work in a plant/manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Observe all safety and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) rules to operate equipment efficiently and effectively.
  • Perform advanced setup and calibration of equipment to meet production requirements.
  • Inspect materials for quality issues before, during, and after production runs.
  • Record and report any quality deficiencies to the supervisor or quality department.
  • Maintain equipment tooling and tools necessary for job completion.
  • Diagnose equipment and quality issues while minimizing scrap and production delays.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks to keep work areas clean and safe.
  • Complete reports related to production, changeovers, and scrap material.
  • Assist maintenance with repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance as an essential function of the role.
