PRIMARY FUNCTION The Chemical Operator monitors the daily operations and activities of the Poly, Dryer, Wastewater, or Utility areas in coordination with the Lead Technicians.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, or GED equivalent.
  • Process Technology Degree OR minimum of 2 years relevant work experience (e.g. production, loading, or unit maintenance) in a chemical plant or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in math, reading comprehension, and mechanical reasoning with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift; weekends; holidays; overtime; and respond to callouts.
  • Ability and willingness to serve as member of Emergency Response Team.
  • Ability to read, write and speak in English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license.
  • Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 40 lbs., climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.

Nice To Haves

  • Good working knowledge of SAP
  • Working knowledge of the Wastewater or VGA/VGTO process at the Pedricktown Industrial Complex preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintains protection of the environment, and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products, as our highest priority.
  • Supports the safety process systems through participation in planned inspections, job observations, near miss reporting, incident investigation, area audits, and other programs as required.
  • Participates in daily operations meetings to communicate information related to safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost consciousness, reliability, and operations.
  • Remains proficient in areas of qualification and coordinates shift work schedules to accommodate proficiencies, providing unit coverage as needed.
  • Responsible for monitoring the operations from the computer screen and be proficient in computer operations.
  • Controls the plant production processes within safe operating limits using standard operating procedures, safety policies, and operational job knowledge.
  • Utilizes DCS data to monitor and troubleshoot process conditions.
  • Generates work requests to address issues utilizing current computer systems.
  • Controls, monitors, operates and maintains the plant production processes, equipment and utilities.
  • Responsible for monitoring, responding to, and documenting key performance measures and making recommendations for adjustments, as needed, based on training and background.
  • Responsible for maintaining process data logs, logbooks, and related sources, and for providing routine process status updates and progress reports through morning meetings and other established communication channels.
  • Provides attention to detail, and dedication to work, in order to ensure reliability of the work site as well as a high-quality product.
  • Provides work direction and training to field technicians.
  • Maintains training and responsibilities in conjunction with Emergency Response Team duties.
  • Assists in procedure reviews, communication of Management of Changes (MOC’s), and maintains related checklists and systems.
  • Supports and fulfills the requirements of the plant’s ISO Quality System.
  • Assists with special projects as requested and work schedules allow.
  • Completes any additional responsibilities assigned by Plant Management.
  • Must be willing to work off schedule when needed, as directed by the appropriate Lead Technician or Process Supervisor.
  • Responsible for identifying existing hazardous waste streams that have been characterized
  • Responsible for contacting the Environmental Department upon identifying new waste streams and providing information to the Department in order that the waste can be characterized in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Responsible for managing hazardous waste in accordance with federal and state regulatory requirements and Environmental Procedures.
  • Responsible for container management, including but not limited to the following activities, proper use of containers, labeling and marking, spill prevention, housekeeping and inspections.
  • Responsible for knowing emergency response procedures for their specific area as identified in the Operations Manual.
  • Responsible for reporting spills involving hazardous waste according to site procedures.
  • Responsible for management of established container storage areas and satellite drum storage in accordance with procedures.
  • Responsible for collecting samples of solid waste to allow for correctly characterizing and profiling wastes. Includes properly completing the chain of custody documents and delivering samples to the laboratory.
  • Responsible for safely and securely transferring hazardous waste containers.
  • Responsible for managing non-hazardous including universal waste and used oil according to federal and state regulations and site procedures.
