We are specifically dedicated to serving the underprivileged! This position supports the Holy Cross Retreat House, a ministry of the Congregation of Holy Cross. The Retreat House has been a spiritual haven for thousands who have passed through its welcoming doors. It is located in Easton, Massachusetts, adjacent to Stonehill College , also founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross. The Retreat House is operated solely on private donations and retreat fees, and receives no state or federal funding. Among retreat houses in the Boston area and south of Boston, our retreat house has established its "market niche" by emphasizing Cursillo and Matt Talbot programs. Cursillo is a worldwide movement which centers on a weekend experience, the short course in Christianity. Cursillo originated in Spain following the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). Matt Talbot was first developed at a Jesuit retreat house in New Jersey in 1943. It is a program for women and men in recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction. The Retreat House is managed by a staff of lay people and clergy. It houses and feeds up to 72 people for retreats. GET TO KNOW THE ROLE Schedule: This casual position averages 10 hours per week, working for 5 hours per day on Thursday, and offers open flexibility for a weekend shift. Your Typical Day: As a part-time Chef Assistant - Kitchen Staff, every day is a new adventure in the kitchen. You'll kick off your day by assisting the head chef with meal prep, from chopping fresh veggies to following tried-and-true recipes. You'll ensure the kitchen stays spotless and organized, ready to whip up delicious meals for our retreat guests. Some days, you'll take the lead, cooking independently for day retreats or breakfasts. Other times, you'll be outside, tending to our garden, harvesting fresh produce, or making a quick grocery run. Flexibility is key as you adapt to the dynamic needs of the retreat house, all while maintaining a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
