The Charge Entry Specialist duties include review and acceptance of electronic and manual charges generated by Augusta Medical Group encounters. In doing so, the Charge Entry Specialist will review provider documentation to extract data to accurately review and make corrections where needed to CPT and/or ICD-10_CDM codes. This position plays a critical role in supporting Augusta Health’s mission and advancing departmental goals through measurable performance indicators and service excellence. This position contributes to a collaborative, patient-centered environment and helps drive outcomes aligned with organizational priorities.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Licensure/Certification: None
  • Experience: One year of physician office experience or related functions.
  • Driver's License: N/A
  • Eligibility to work in the United States and meet Virginia state employment requirements
  • Participation in continuing education programs per department guidelines is a must
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office products required
  • Knowledge of hospital and/or practice management EHR systems required
  • Understanding clinical documentation and terminology
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and complete projects on time or ahead of schedule
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and develop alternative solutions
  • Ability to work independently or in a group setting

Nice To Haves

  • Education: None
  • Licensure/Certification: Certification through AAPC (can be obtained on the job).
  • Experience: None
  • Prior experience in a hospital, healthcare system, or related service-oriented environment
  • Familiarity with Augusta Health’s systems, workflows, or organizational culture is a plus
  • Knowledge of national correct coding initiatives preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately enter/accept Evaluation and Management level codes for all professional fee services within accordance of CPT and CMS guidelines.
  • Understand and maintain education on all CPT/ICD-10/HCPCs guidelines including revisions, deletions and additions to the code sets.
  • Make necessary changes to claims to ensure accurate and complete billing of services rendered including addition of modifiers, correction of place of service codes, addition of missing charge codes and payer specific billing modifications where necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with providers, office managers, auditors, and billing staff.
  • Review providers dictation for office and procedural visits as needed.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of 2 – 4 specialties provided by Augusta Medical Group.
  • Other duties as assigned by AMG Coding Manager, or Patient Accounting Director.
