About The Position

The On-Call Chaplain provides essential, immediate pastoral care services to patients, families, and staff during non-standard hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. This role is crucial for delivering holistic, spiritual, and emotional support across all areas of the Medical Center, particularly in emergency or crisis.

Requirements

  • Current ecclesiastical endorsement by a recognized religious conference or synod is mandatory.
  • Must be an ordained minister authorized to administer sacraments within their religious denomination.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to provide empathetic and supportive communication in highly difficult or sensitive interpersonal situations.
  • Capacity to utilize analytical skills to address complex spiritual and ethical problems, integrating in-depth, experience-based knowledge with established principles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Theology or a related field.
  • Completion of a minimum of one semester of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training.

  • Master's degree from an accredited seminary (AATS)

Responsibilities

  • Pastoral Care Provision: Deliver comprehensive chaplaincy services upon request, which include, but are not limited to:
  • Bedside visitation and spiritual guidance. Administration of sacraments consistent with the chaplain's denomination.
  • Pastoral counseling is provided for patients, families, and staff experiencing crisis or distress, offering spiritual and emotional support specifically for staff as required.
  • Serve as the first responder for emergency pastoral care needs across the hospital campus.
  • Maintain precise and current records regarding all calls and visits, ensuring strict compliance with all hospital and departmental regulations. Submit a daily report of all activities undertaken via email.
  • Maintain currency in theological principles and pastoral care practices through engagement with relevant literature and participation in educational programs (a minimum of one workshop or continuing education event annually is required).
  • Complete hospital and departmental orientation prior to the start date and attend the annual departmental professional discussion.
