About The Position

The Department Chairperson represents a dynamic and diverse faculty, advocates for the department, works with an advisory board of business professionals, recruits students and faculty, and manages department resources, including fundraising. The Department currently includes 34 tenured/tenure-track faculty, instructional assistant professors and staff, and the Chairperson supports a culture that values shared governance, inclusion, and balance between effective instruction and scholarly research. The Department of Management is one of four departments in the College of Business, along with Accounting; Finance, Insurance and Law; and Marketing. AACSB International accredits the institution in both Accounting and Business. In 2025, the college enrolled approximately 3,952 undergraduates and 278 master’s degree students, and the enrollment in the Department was 1,337 students. The Department offers five areas for majors and minors: Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, Organizational Leadership, and International Business. In addition, the Department offers a minor in Business Environment and Sustainability that draws students from the entire University. Graduate-level management courses are also offered as part of the M.B.A. degree program. Illinois State University, founded in 1857, enrolls approximately 21,000 students in six colleges. Its strategic plan, Excellence by Design: 2024-2029, lists seven core values: Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship; Individualized Attention; Equity, Diversity, Access, and Belonging; Collaboration; Community and Civic Engagement; Respect; and Integrity. The university is located in the growing twin cities of Bloomington and Normal, with a metro population of approximately 172,000. The community is known for its outstanding school systems, high level of educational attainment, parks and recreation, health care, vibrant fine arts scene, job growth, economic opportunity, historic sites, and low crime rates.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in Management or a closely related field from an accredited university
  • Eligibility for tenure and a current appointment at the associate professor rank or higher within the department
  • A record of successful teaching, university service, and significant intellectual contributions
  • Familiarity with AACSB accreditation standards and processes
  • For teaching positions, state law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position
