The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at McGill University invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor as Chair of the McGill University Department of Emergency Medicine. A tenure stream position may be available for the selected candidate. The McGill University Department of Emergency Medicine comprises an outstanding group of physicians, researchers, trainees, and administrative support staff, whose mission is to contribute to the health of the population and the sustainability of the healthcare system in Quebec, Canada, and abroad by training medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals, fostering innovation in clinical practice, promoting research and scholarly activities, stimulating and supporting curriculum innovation and research, and participating in international and global health activities. The Department, known for pioneering emergency medicine training in Canada, is proud to be the home of over 150 bright and energetic faculty members. Our faculty members provide academic and clinical expertise in the areas of innovation, pre-hospital care, trauma, health informatics, resuscitation, simulation, point of care ultrasound, medical education, sport medicine, and aviation medicine. The Department offers a dynamic and diverse clinical environment distributed across four major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal. Collectively, we manage close to 250,000 ED visits per year at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Glen Site (a tertiary/quaternary hospital with multi-organ transplantation, cardiac surgery and cancer care), the Montreal General Hospital (a Level-1 trauma centre), the Jewish General Hospital (the busiest emergency department in Quebec and the centre of point-of-care ultrasound training), and the St. Mary’s Hospital Centre. This integrated network is further supported by affiliates including the Lakeshore General Hospital, the Lachine Hospital, and Campus Outaouais. The Department has two independent residency programs affiliated with two different colleges, both supported by the academic department and clinical emergency departments. The residency programs are among the most comprehensive and broad-based teaching programs in Canada and includes an FRCPC program (5-year; over 25 trainees) and a CCFP-EM program (1-year enhanced skills program; over 10 trainees). The Department also hosts multiple post-graduate fellowships including point-of-care ultrasound, Toxicology, medical simulation, trauma and health informatics. We also provide rich undergraduate medical students training and postgraduate training experiences from other specialty programs. As Chair of the McGill University Department of Emergency Medicine, the successful candidate will articulate and advance a clear research philosophy and build a cohesive, sustainable research program, while strengthening the Department’s scholarly environment through strategic recruitment, mentorship, and structured faculty development and review. The successful candidate will be an experienced leader with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop, communicate, and implement a unifying vision for a high-performing and innovative Department. The successful candidate will also be expected to have a track record of success in leading interdisciplinary initiatives, extensive experience in teaching and mentorship, strong interest in fostering social justice within an academic and clinical setting, and a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
