About The Position

Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School seeks a Chair of Emergency Medicine. This position is a senior leadership role responsible for advancing the strategic, clinical, educational, and research missions of the department. The Chair is responsible for fostering excellence in patient care, advancing innovative research, promoting top-tier education and training programs, and championing equity and inclusion. The Chair will serve as a key member of the institution’s leadership team, collaborating across disciplines to achieve strategic goals. This leader will establish the department as a national model for integrated academic and clinical excellence in Emergency Medicine. Reporting directly to the Dean and working closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and other members of the Dean’s Executive Team, the Chair directs and coordinates the clinical, teaching and research efforts within the department. This position requires a leader who will build a strong, collaborative relationship with the school’s principal hospital affiliate that facilitates the growth and recognition of an academic medical center, and serve as a role model and catalyst of intellectual attainment. In addition, the Chair will advise on personnel matters, participate in activities of faculty committees, support faculty pursuit of research and scholarly activity, and develop and manage the departmental budget. The chair will also advise the Dean on academic, clinical and financial matters. Working closely with Emergency Medicine Department Administrators, the chair will be responsible for the supervision of approximately 31 clinical faculty, 21 APPs, 1 Ph.D. researcher and 5 staff members.
