About The Position

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist exercises independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures, in accordance with the nurse practitioner licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice and Protocol for Nurse Practitioners. This role demonstrates respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines while using an integrated approach to achieve desired patient outcomes. Utilizes evidenced based standards, guidelines and protocols for care delivery.

Requirements

  • Certification - Basic Life Support upon start
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (for Critical Care) upon start
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (for Pediatrics) upon start
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist completed through the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists upon start
  • Licensure - Registered Nurse Compact License (depending on State of primary residence) and a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Prescriptive Authority for Licensed Nurse Practitioners Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Prescriptive Authority License" AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances); CRNA Specialty
  • Experience - 3 years as a Registered Nurse
  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Nursing and Master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post masters certificate program for nurse practitioners- OR certificate from an education program that is accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Practices in accordance with safe and effective standards of care and ensures compliance with professional and ethical standards of practice
  • Develops differential diagnosis and plans of care based on data collection and revises based on physiologic and psychosocial findings
  • Interprets and synthesizes laboratory, imaging and other pertinent data
  • Reviews patient plan of care with interdisciplinary team and with the patient and family
  • Evaluates and documents patients' response to car, and evaluates impact of illness on patients' health status, functional status, nutritional status, sleep and rest patterns, family and social relationships, and establishes a health promotion strategy
  • Assumes clinical management for the critically ill cardiovascular patient population in collaboration with physicians in practice
  • Assists in the development and revision of standards for patient populations and integrates evidence based research findings into clinical practice
  • Participates in clinical research and data collection and assists in projects and planning for continual development of respective specialty
  • Provides clinical and professional educational programs to improve staff knowledge
  • Maintains certification(s) and licensure(s), including DEA license, if applicable. Is fully compliant with the IHI bundles
  • May perform additional duties as assigned
