About The Position

PURPOSE: The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) provides pain medication (anesthesia) care for patients before, during, and after surgery. The CRNA administers medications to keep patients asleep or pain-free during surgery and constantly monitor every biological function of the patient's body. ACCOUNTABILITIES AND JOB ACTIVITIES: Provide pre-anesthetic preparation and patient evaluation Ensure patient identification and obtain appropriate health history Recommend, request, and evaluate pertinent diagnostic studies Document pre-anesthetic evaluation Obtain informed consent for anesthesia Select and/or administer pre-anesthetic medication Prepare and administer anesthetic agents or other agents administered in management of anesthetic care Inform anesthesiologist and/or surgeon of changes in patient’s condition Provide anesthesia induction, maintenance, emergence, and post anesthesia care Insert invasive line catheter/devices Perform tracheal intubation and extubation, airway management Provide mechanical ventilation Perform and manage regional anesthetic Manage patient’s fluid, blood, electrolyte and acid base balance Provide perianesthetic non-invasive monitoring utilizing current standards and technique Respond to abnormal findings with corrective action Recognize and treat cardiac dysrhythmias through use of perianesthetic electrocardiogram monitoring Evaluate patient response during emergence from anesthesia Institute pharmacological or supportive treatment to insure adequacy of patient recovery from anesthesia and adjuvant drugs Provide post anesthesia follow-up, report, and evaluation of patient’s response to anesthesia and for potential anesthetic complication Identify and manage emergency situations Initiate or participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation Perform or order equipment safety checks as needed Clean and sterilize equipment and notifies supervisors of needed equipment adjustments/repairs May perform patient care to the extent necessary to maintain clinical expertise, competency and licensing necessary to fulfill job responsibilities Develop and maintain personal and professional skills Attend all mandatory staff meetings per year unless excused as evidenced by documentation Attend mandatory in-services and a minimum of two pertinent in-services per year as documented Actively participate in performance improvement activities as observed or documented Establish realistic professional goals as evidenced by the annual performance evaluation Actively keep abreast of departmental and organizational activities Demonstrate flexibility in response to unexpected change in workload or situations as observed Serves on committees and/or participates in changes of policy and procedures that affect the operation of services as documented Assist in the orientation of new personnel as directed Support the mission and goals of the company as observed Address all emails within 24 hours as documented Perform other duties as required Demonstrate safe and cost-effective practice Consistently adhere to OSHA bloodborne pathogen guidelines; Requirements

  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record

  • Graduate of accredited nurse anesthesia program
  • Two (2) years of anesthesia care in acute setting experience preferred
  • Valid state RN License (must meet education requirement(s) for state licensure)
  • Valid state APRN Recognition (must meet education requirement (s) for state recognition and obtain within six (6) months of hire)
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA)
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Taxonomy code required at time of hire
  • Certified Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification

Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, walking up stairs, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-anesthetic preparation and patient evaluation
  • Ensure patient identification and obtain appropriate health history
  • Recommend, request, and evaluate pertinent diagnostic studies
  • Document pre-anesthetic evaluation
  • Obtain informed consent for anesthesia
  • Select and/or administer pre-anesthetic medication
