This role provides advanced occupational health and safety expertise to one of Apex’s most valued clients, a national aerospace manufacturer. For over 25 years, Apex has partnered closely with this client to achieve their Occupational Health, Ergonomics, and Safety Engineering goals. The Senior Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) will serve as one of the on-site technical leader supporting the client’s Wichita, Kansas facility. This is a full-time, on-site position (5 days per week, 8-hour day shift) for an initial 6-month period, with possible extension based on performance and client needs. The incumbent will act as the site’s senior IH subject matter expert, providing expert guidance, oversight, and management of all aspects of Industrial Hygiene and chemical exposure control. This includes shop floor exposure assessments, review of chemical usage and substitution, vertical standard program management, and continuous improvement of core IH programs. In addition to technical execution, this role includes strategic support of the client’s EHS leadership team—communicating findings, risk trends, and program recommendations directly to Boeing EHS and enterprise leadership. A deep understanding of Federal and State occupational health regulations, along with demonstrated ability to apply IH science and risk principles in a complex manufacturing environment, is essential. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive, solutions-driven approach, advanced analytical capability, and strong leadership in project management and cross-functional collaboration. While the role centers on Industrial Hygiene, a solid foundation in safety principles is also valuable. As a fixed-term engagement, this position is authorized for 6 months, with potential extension based on performance and client requirements. Your Responsibilities as an Industrial Hygienist :

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in industrial Hygiene or related field; 10+ years of experience.
  • CIH preferred but not required (if the incumbent can demonstrate advance knowledge of Industrial Hygiene CSP or other certifications preferred.
  • Expert in exposure assessment, toxicology, and chemical hazard evaluation.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, ACGIH, and related standards.
  • Proven ability to lead IH programs and mentor teams.
  • Experienced in compliance audits, risk assessments, and program management.
  • Skilled in data analysis, reporting, and stakeholder communication.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and EHS software tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • The incumbent will carry a great deal of creativity and have a self-starter mentality.
  • Ensures compliance with all EHS/OSHA/ACGIH and NIOSH regulations and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
  • Strong technical writing skills, the ability to successfully multi-task, safety awareness, and a good record and understanding of safe work practices.
  • Bringing a strong background in occupational health and safety sciences such as; chemistry, physics, toxicology, radiation, safety etc.
  • Strong skills in collecting, assessing organizing and summarizing data; implementing solutions and changes within programs to optimize employee safety.
  • Applicable experience in following regulatory methodologies for gathering impactful data.
  • Ability to lead audits, inspections and investigations and coordinates resolution of issues.
  • Understanding emerging technology for the identification of potential hazards and control methods.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as on-site Industrial Hygiene Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing technical leadership and program direction.
  • Oversee teams performing exposure assessments and ensure technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Direct Hexavalent Chromium and other vertical standard programs, driving continuous improvement and risk reduction.
  • Provide strategic oversight for Industrial Hygiene, Hearing Conservation, Confined Space, and Ventilation programs.
  • Lead review and implementation of Respiratory Protection and PPE programs, ensuring alignment with corporate standards.
  • Guide Hazard Communication initiatives and ensure effective chemical hazard management.
  • Manage baseline and ongoing IH monitoring strategies for regulated and high-risk materials.
  • Supervise and validate industrial ventilation assessments of paint booths, sanding areas, and lab hoods to optimize exposure control.
