This role is intended for a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) to provide senior-level support on a part‑time, as‑needed basis, contingent on the incumbent’s availability and schedule. The CIH will deliver expert industrial hygiene consultation and technical oversight for a wide range of IH-related projects across Apex’s client base, including large and complex organizations in diverse industries. The incumbent will function as a Senior-Level CIH, serving as the technical authority and providing expert review and oversight of IH work products. This may include strategy and methodology for exposure assessments, sampling plans, interpretation of results, control recommendations, and formal IH deliverables. Typical support may involve: development and refinement of IH programs (e.g., noise, chemical, radiation, respiratory protection inputs); review and interpretation of sampling and exposure data; technical review of reports and exposure assessments; input on data management and analytics approaches; participation in internal audit activities; and consultation on research and evaluation of emerging hazards and risks. The CIH will collaborate with Apex project teams and client Environmental Health and Safety and operational stakeholders to ensure that IH work aligns with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and client standards. The incumbent is expected to bring a strong, broad-based command of Industrial Hygiene principles and practice, and to provide clear, defensible, and practical technical guidance. This is a flexible, as‑needed role and engagement levels may vary over time based on client needs, project demands, and the incumbent’s availability. The arrangement is subject to adjustment or discontinuation due to client financial or budgetary changes, as well as potential expansion if demand and performance warrant. Your Responsibilities as an Industrial Hygienist : Conduct IH program reviews and support development and updates to written IH programs and procedures. Perform occupational exposure sampling and field assessments to evaluate chemical, noise, and other workplace hazards. Manage and interpret IH data, turning sampling and assessment results into clear recommendations. Review chemical data and SDSs, and prepare concise technical summaries and reports. Maintain internal IH data management systems to ensure accurate, organized records. Support compliance through targeted training and technical guidance to clients and project teams. Assist with IH audit activities, including field verification, documentation of findings, and follow-up. Identify and characterize workplace risks and hazards through field observations, data review, and focused research

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with approximately 5 or more years' related work experience or an Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) with a strong record of applied industrial hygiene practice in diverse operations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related scientific/engineering field; advanced degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible IH experience, including program development, exposure assessment strategy, and technical oversight.
  • Demonstrated expertise in chemical hazards, toxicology, and interpretation of complex exposure scenarios.
  • Deep knowledge of applicable occupational health regulations, vertical standards, and industry best practices, with proven IH program management experience.
  • Strong background in reviewing, interpreting, and validating sampling data, and in preparing or approving high-quality technical reports and exposure assessments.
  • Experience providing technical leadership, mentorship, and review of junior and mid-level IH staff and multidisciplinary EHS teams.
  • Proficiency with IH and EHS data management systems and analytics, as well as the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to convey complex IH concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to support client needs on a part-time, as-needed basis consistent with professional availability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • The incumbent will carry a great deal of creativity and have a self-starter mentality.
  • This position entails routine ongoing work and negotiation with numerous customer stakeholders – all of whom need to be ‘satisfied’ with respect to project purpose, scope, and tactics.
  • This individual relies on experience and judgment paired with the overall work statement provided by the customer to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ensures compliance with all EHS/OSHA/ACGIH and NIOSH regulations and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
  • Strong technical writing skills, the ability to successfully multi-task, safety awareness, and a good record and understanding of safe work practices.
  • Represents Apex’s excellence to client stakeholders with full time on site supporting IH needs at a client’s manufacturing site.
  • Bringing a strong background in occupational health and safety sciences such as; chemistry, physics, toxicology, radiation, safety etc.
  • Strong skills in collecting, assessing organizing and summarizing data; implementing solutions and changes with in programs to optimize employee safety.
  • Applicable experience in following regulatory methodologies for gathering impactful data.
  • Ability to lead audits, inspections and investigations and coordinates resolution of issues.
  • Understanding emerging technology for the identification of potential hazards and control methods.
  • Work in close routine collaboration with the customer, designs, implements and executes an agreed-to service plan.
  • Monitors and reports progress on plan completion as directed.
  • Works with numerous internal and external stakeholders in the interest of achieving desired overall project velocity.
  • Acts as an advisor to the customer on occupational safety and health issues.
  • Provides input to project managers, client relationship managers, or business development staff on potential new EHS support projects.
  • Participates in business development activities as directed.
