About The Position

The Doula will provide emotional, physical, and educational support to expectant mothers before, during, and after childbirth. This role involves building strong relationships with members, assisting with birth planning, providing comfort measures during labor, and offering postpartum care and guidance.

Requirements

  • Strong passion for supporting expectant mothers and families through the childbirth experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with clients
  • Knowledge of childbirth education, comfort measures, breastfeeding support, and postpartum care
  • Willingness to attend births at any time of day or night, including weekends and holidays
  • Understanding of common medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
  • Solve problems by analyzing information and using logic to address issues and problems
  • Convey complex subject matter, simply
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Caring, compassionate, and approachable in all customer contacts
  • Privacy - respects customers right to privacy and modesty
  • Ability to handle protected health information and personally identifiable information in accordance with HIPAA requirements.

  • Flexible schedule, including availability for on-call support during clients' labor and delivery.
  • Doula certification from an accredited organization (DONA, Madriella, etc.)
  • Ability to continuously stand or walk. Ability to bend, climb stairs with the potential for frequent lifting.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
  • The remote position requires the individual to work from home or established work site. Must have dedicated space within home to operate fully.
  • The position requires frequent driving which requires the ability to sit for long periods of time. Must provide proof of a valid Driver's License and insurance coverage
  • The position requires the employee to conduct home visits in members’ homes which requires the individuals to obtain and exchange information and assist the member with resolving simple to complex issues related to their accessing their health care benefits. The work requires frequent communication which requires ability to express self and receive information.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with expectant mothers and their families to discuss birth preferences, concerns, and expectations
  • Provide evidence-based information about pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care to help clients make informed decisions
  • Assist in creating birth plans that reflect the client's preferences for labor, delivery, and postpartum care
  • Offer continuous emotional and physical support to laboring mothers and their partners throughout the childbirth process
  • Provide comfort measures such as massage, breathing techniques, positioning suggestions, and relaxation techniques to help manage pain and discomfort during labor
  • Advocate for the client's preferences and wishes during labor and communicate effectively with medical staff to ensure the client's needs are met
  • Offer support and guidance to new parents during the immediate postpartum period, including assistance with breastfeeding, newborn care, and emotional adjustment
  • Provide resources and referrals to community services and support groups as needed to help clients navigate the postpartum period
  • Educate clients about childbirth, newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery to empower them to make informed decisions and feel confident in their abilities as parents
  • Facilitate childbirth education classes, support groups, or workshops to provide additional education and support to expectant and new parents
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions, including prenatal visits, labor support, and postpartum care
  • Communicate effectively with clients, healthcare providers, and other members of the birth team to ensure continuity of care and support
  • Other duties as assigned
