About The Position

Texas NeuroRehab Center is a specialized treatment facility located ten minutes from downtown Austin on 67 wooded acres. Originally a cattle ranch, the land was purchased in 1943 as part of The Brown Schools and has operated as a medical rehabilitation and behavioral healthcare facility for over 80 years. Today, Texas NeuroRehab Center provides complex medical and brain and spinal cord injury rehab for ages 13 years and older and neuropsychiatric treatment for youth. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges. Texas NeuroRehab Center is internationally known for improving the quality of life for many children; adolescents and adults, and it will continue to provide innovative approaches to neurobehavioral healthcare. Website: https://texasneurorehab.com/ Texas NeuroRehab Center is currently accepting applicants for a Central Nursing Supervisor. This candidate will provide direct patient care as prescribed by the physician and treatment team. Provide medical management and assessment of patients. Ensure environmental safety and crisis management for the patient population. Direct the implementation of behavior management programs and ensure consistent carry-through. Make patient & task assignments to subordinates & monitor their performance of duties. Provide training & education to staff, patients, families, & others. Document patient care, ensure that data is accurate, & that it is included in the master treatment plan via timely nursing care plan updates. Work with the treatment team to provide a consistently therapeutic milieu.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnoses, & interventions with patients.
  • Knowledge of milieu management.
  • Ability to direct subordinates in the performance of their duties.
  • Ability to accurately administer medication and monitor side-effects.
  • Ability to safely implement Special Treatment Procedures.
  • Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current State of Texas Registered Nurse License.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • One year of inpatient medical surgery, rehabilitation, or psychiatric experience preferred.
  • Able to sustain physical activity throughout scheduled shift.
  • Able to remain on feet throughout scheduled shift.
  • Able to physically restrain patients by individual or team restraint per policy.
  • Able to lift, carry, and lower 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Able to push patients in wheel chairs up and down hills and pursue running patients.
  • Able to transfer patients to and from wheelchairs, beds, toilets, & vehicles.
  • Able to confront a dangerous and aggressive patient.
  • Verbal skills to communicate to deescalate a crisis situation.
  • Writing skills to accurately convey patient behavior and status.
  • Visual observation skills so as to convey verbally & in writing patient behavior or to protect self and others from aggressive patients or other accidents.
  • Writing skills to include legibility and correct grammar to convey patient behavior and other information in the patient chart.
  • Ability to assist in direct patient care from prompting through total care (i.e. bath, diapering).
  • Able to eat with and feed patients.
  • Regular & required attendance.
  • Hearing and vision sufficient to perform essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • RN,C; CRRN preferred.
