About The Position

This position provides educational instruction to students in Continuing Education non-credit courses in assigned makeup subjects/topics, adhering to the course syllabus, semester schedule, and college mission. Instruction may include day, evening, distance education, weekend courses, online instruction, and other instructional modalities. The instructor is responsible for teaching students the theory and practical skills of professional makeup artistry, covering beauty, fashion, theatrical, and special effects makeup. Key aspects of the role include creating lesson plans, demonstrating techniques, evaluating student progress, and ensuring a high-quality learning experience that prepares students for success in the beauty industry.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent
  • Minimum of (2) two years of professional makeup artistry experience
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of current beauty industry trends and products
  • Ability to motivate and mentor diverse learners

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching or training experience
  • Certification in Makeup Artistry or Cosmetology Operator License

Responsibilities

  • Teach makeup application techniques, color theory, skin preparation, sanitation, and professional standards.
  • Demonstrate various makeup styles such as bridal, editorial, stage, film, and special effects.
  • Conduct hands-on workshops and supervise student practice sessions.
  • Develop and update course materials, lesson plans, and assessment tools aligned with current industry trends.
  • Incorporate new products, tools, and technologies into the curriculum.
  • Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to help students improve their technique and professionalism.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment.
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation, hygiene, and safety regulations.
  • Supervise students in the school’s clinic/studio to ensure quality client service and adherence to sanitation standards.
  • Oversee inventory of makeup supplies and equipment.
  • Stay up-to-date with makeup trends, products, and industry innovations.
  • Participate in department meetings/trainings, workshops, trade shows, and continued education opportunities.
  • Maintain lab space cleanliness and sanitation per the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) guidelines and assist in managing consumable supply inventory, including establishing a PAR stock, assisting with ordering supplies as needed, and ensuring availability for instruction.
  • Conduct student assessments/testing, and educational/vocational goal setting for all assigned students.
  • Complete daily class attendance rosters and accurately document student absences.
  • Develop and submit 100% of learning documentation and course syllabi to program director of courses assigned.
  • Maintain familiarity with current course textbooks, classroom materials, teaching aids, and teaching techniques revising course content, teaching methodology, and technology to maintain currency and relevance relative to courses within the discipline.
  • Return instructor/student books/materials supplied by the college at the end of each semester.
  • Prepare and submit 100% of student related forms – student evaluations, student attendance rosters, tracking and information forms, informal assessments of student progress, and other student-related documents for 100% of students assigned in accordance with directed timeline requirements.
  • Complete and submit 100% of staff related forms (teaching contracts, professional development forms, materials/supplies tracking forms, and additional requests) in accordance with directed timeline requirements.
  • Immediately notify program director of any and all support services that students may need; documenting referrals made.
  • Respect confidentiality in discussing students, staff, volunteers, and college matters.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of and adhere to College Mission, procedures and regulations.
  • Keep program director well-informed of activities, results of efforts, problems identified/potential problems related to instruction and students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
