About The Position

Zepf Center has been serving the Lucas County community for over 50 years. We are the leading provider of behavioral health and substance use disorder services in Northwest Ohio. Services include adult and child psychiatric, substance abuse, case management, residential, Crisis Care, and therapy programs, as well as career development and wellness services. Zepf Center also offers primary care medical services to our patients to contribute to their continuum of care. Zepf Center is a trauma-informed agency and environment for both patients and staff. Hours: Three, 12-hour weekly shifts; 7:00am - 7:00pm with one weekend a month General Summary: This position is responsible for providing support, reassurance, and counseling to patients in our substance use disorder (SUD) programs. Counselor Assistants are responsible for facilitating/leading group sessions, and initiating individual discussions, as well as patient supervision and observation. This individual must be alert, empathic, and attentive to meet the significant needs of the clients. Counselor Assistants also must be able to perform the OCDPB Twelve Core Functions and Competencies (including screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, referral, consultation, and reports/recordkeeping) under the supervision of a licensed independent chemical dependency counselor or other appropriately licensed individual. It is expected and essential for all employees to meet their regular work schedule. All employees within this department will be required to learn all aspects of their position even when tasks/responsibilities are divided among staff member and/or shifts.

Responsibilities

Provide ongoing support of patients' individual recovery processes.
Provide quality chemical dependency treatment according to program and agency requirements.
Use appropriate motivational techniques to engage patients in successfully completing their treatment.
Maintain a healthy environment that will promote the recovery process.
Provide basic chemical dependency education, counseling and case management, that consistently directs patients toward achieving full recovery (i.e., disease of addiction, blackouts, withdrawal, effects on self and others, triggers, relapse process and prevention).
Supervise all patient activities, providing group as required by curriculum under the appropriate level of supervision.
Maintain case records and reports accurately and completely.
Communicate and cooperate with peers and medical staff to ensure quality patient care.
Practice courtesy and professionalism with patients, staff and other departments.
Adhere to and practice the OCDPB'S Code of Ethics for Chemical Dependency Professionals, both in the workplace and in the community.
Demonstrate competency and promotion of the use of the OCDPB Twelve Core Functions and Competencies (including screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, referral, consultation, and reports/recordkeeping) under the supervision of a licensed independent chemical dependency counselor.
Keep current credentials/licensure/and other requirements by attending all required trainings and staff meetings.
Maintain a calm, cooperative and positive outlook in working with patients, coworkers, referral sources, and family members.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Demonstrate knowledge of existing community resources and ability to access these resources in the best interest of the patients.
Ability to maintain licensure/credential and provide documentation for personnel records.
Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with other departments and ensure coordination of services in the best interest of the patients and efficient outcomes for the agency.
Knowledge and adherence of CARF standards.
The ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to document clear, concise, accurate notes, and compliance with all local/state/federal laws and standards of confidentiality.
Must be able to work effectively with intoxicated, detoxing and recovering individuals.
Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
CPR and First Aid trained, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) trained.
Demonstrate knowledge of the agency mission, vision, goals and philosophy as well as the policies and procedures.
