About The Position

The Catering Sales Manager generates meeting and banquet revenue (using the sales parameters as outlined by the Director of Catering & Convention Services) through solicitation of local businesses, conventions, conferences, associations, tour groups and other key accounts. Contributes to the development of marketing and sales strategies by being aware of the competition as well as the social, political, and business climate in the community. Supports the purpose and goals of the Catering & Convention Services Department’s function in the Hotel.

Requirements

  • 4 years catering sales and coordinating experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of multi-level database programs.
  • Ability to learn and utilize the Catering Booking System (Opera).
  • Good organizational skills. Must be detail oriented and able to follow-up on assigned tasks.
  • Good communication skills. Must be able to inter-relate with clientele and possess good phone etiquette.
  • Good sales skills and creative in thought.
  • Must be outgoing, service oriented, reliable, and present a professional image.
  • Valid driver’s license and transportation.
  • Good mathematical and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • College graduate preferred. Course in Food Service/Food Management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Solicits new leads for potential food and beverage business.
  • Follows-up on incoming inquiries via phone, email, and walk-ins, as assigned; and through third-party RFPs (Request for Proposals).
  • Finalizes accounts, review, and authorizes typed event orders.
  • Maintains an open line of communication with each client.
  • Achieves sales quotas established for each fiscal year.
  • Assists the Director of Catering & Convention Services and Management in other matters as requested.
  • Be present at the start of functions to ensure that the arrangements are in order and assist at special functions sponsored by the Hotel.
  • Attends intra-departmental ad inter-departmental meetings, as scheduled.
  • Calls to obtain function guarantees.
  • Completes and submits loss business report.
  • Conducts competitive hotel and industry surveys annually.
  • Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be re-established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
