About The Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Springs Rescue Mission considers every position one of ministry and a vital and valued part of our team. The Catering Chef position is directly responsible for the preparation and provision of meals and quality hospitality services for Mission Catering, clients’ contracts and events. This position will oversee planning, preparation, delivery and execution of all catering events. The Catering Chef will instruct trainees to follow best practices and top-quality standards. The Catering chef will work with Director and other SRM leadership to meet revenue goals and mile markers, and compliance standards, under the direction of the Director of Mission Catering and Food Services.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ Catering experience
  • Minimum of 15 years of food services experience required
  • Minimum 10 years supervision and management of kitchen personnel required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
  • SERVsafe certified
  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and is a constant witness. Christ-centered and compassionate attitude in dealing with people including the homeless and faithfully upholds and exemplifies SRM’s Statement of Faith
  • Strong kitchen management skills
  • Ability to lead and teach culinary skills and Christian character development
  • Knowledge of critical food safety and handling practices
  • Follow recipes as well as create recipes and to train students and residents from inception/creation to final plating
  • Good eye-hand motor skills: precise, careful, and safety conscious
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to clearly communicate verbally and promote teamwork and apply problem-solving skills
  • Able to work with diverse groups of people treating all with dignity and respect
  • Computer literate, knowledgeable in Word, Excel, and Email
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license
  • Occasionally: sitting, stretching, climbing, working at high or elevated levels, driving Frequently: standing, bending, reaching, lifting, must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, walking, talking, manual dexterity Continuously: climbing, carrying, kneeling, walking, adequate vision and hearing, good mental condition to withstand consistently medium to high levels of stress

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with homeless, addicted, mentally ill highly desirable
  • Knowledge of 12-steps/recovery/mental illness preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage entire catering Kitchen staff, Trainees, and Volunteers
  • Responsible for overseeing scheduling for catering team
  • Oversee all menus and recipes events and contracts
  • Supervises meal preparation and meal clean-up
  • Works to ensure all Catering Clients/Events are schedule
  • Supervise food orders, and inventory insuring proper food handling and storage
  • Takes weekly inventory of all purchased and donated food items
  • Lead students and interns in achieving the goals of Springs Rescue Mission Culinary Arts Program and supports them in their interpersonal growth in a Christian environment
  • Minister, encourage and promote the growth and development of students and residents; facilitates teamwork, time management, and problem resolution
  • Ensures proper use, cleaning, and storage of equipment.
  • Implements training of established health and safety standards and procedures, including those of USDA, OSHA and SERVsafe
  • Maintain budgets for Catering
  • Collect or oversee collection of all payments from catering customers
  • Prepare and submit both formal and informal reports and/or presentations
  • In this role, you may be required to drive on behalf of Springs Rescue Mission, so a valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required. To ensure the safety of our employees and compliance with state and federal law, SRM utilizes ongoing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) monitoring. This means that you may be required to have MVR report run at any time to ensure you have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record if utilized as driver.
  • Attends all required SRM meetings and reviews SRM emails regularly
  • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
